WhenBabbagewasworkingatCambridge,anewideaoccurredtohim.Hewantedtoconstructacalculating（计算）machinetoworkoutthesolutionstomathsproblemsnotonlywithcorrectnessbutalsowithaspeedbeyondthepowerofanyhumanmind.Hismachinecouldsolveproblemsinvolvinglongrowsoffiguresinonecontinuousoperation（运算）.
