NiemeyeralsodesignedtheNationalCongressbuilding.Thisgovernmentbuildinghasmanyparts.Thebiggestpartistwotalltowersthatrisestraightupintotheair.Ononesideofthisisawhitebuilding.Itisshapedlikeabowlthatapersonwouldeatoutof.Ontheothersideisabuildingintheoppositeshape.Theseshapesarenottheusualdesignofgovernmentbuildings.

“IfyougotoseeBrasilia,youmayormaynotlikethebuildings,butyoucouldneversayyouhadseensomethingsimilarbefore,”Niemeyersaid.“Itisimportantthatthedesignerthinkofmorethandesign.Thearchitect'sroleistoproduceanarchitecturethatserveseveryonenotjustagroupofimportantpeople,”hesaid.
