2.September11attacks
TheSeptember11attacks(oftenreferredtoasSeptember11thor9/11)wereaseriesofcoordinated suicideattacksby al-Qaeda upontheUnitedStatesonSeptember11,2001.Onthatmorning,19al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked fourcommercialpassenger jetairliners.ThehijackersintentionallycrashedtwooftheairlinersintotheTwinTowersoftheWorldTradeCenter inNewYorkCity,killingeveryoneonboardandmanyothersworkinginthebuildings.Bothbuildingscollapsedwithintwohours,destroyingnearbybuildingsanddamagingothers.Thehijackerscrashedathirdairlinerintothe Pentagon inArlington,Virginia,justoutsideWashington,D.C.ThefourthplanecrashedintoafieldnearShanksville inruralPennsylvaniaaftersomeofitspassengersandflightcrewattemptedtoretakecontroloftheplane,whichthehijackershadredirectedtowardWashington,D.C.Therewerenosurvivorsfromanyoftheflights.
