 Itwasduringtheweekofhotsun，thatJune.Threemenwereatworkontheroof，wheretheleadsgotsohottheyhadtheideaofthrowingwaterontocoolthem.Butthewatersteamed，thensizzled；andtheymakejokesaboutgettinganeggfromsomewomanintheflatsundertheflatsunderthem，topoachitfortheirdinner.Bytwoitwasnotpossibletotouchthegutteringtheywerereplacing，andtheyspeculatedaboutwhatworkmendidinregularlyhotcountries.Perhapstheyshouldborrowkitchengloveswiththeegg?

Theywereallabitdizzy，notusedtotheheat；andtheyshedtheircoatsandstoodsidebysidesqueezingthemselvesintoafootwidepatchofshadeagainstachimney，carefultokeeptheirfeetinthethicksocksandbootsoutofthesun.Therewasafineviewacrossseveralacresofroofs.Notfaroffamansatinadeckchairreadingthenewspapers.Thentheysawher，betweenchimneys，aboutfiftyyardsaway.Shelayfacedownonabrownblanket.Theycouldseethetoppartofher：
