BriefStatementsBasedonThisUnit

ThisunitcentersontheUnitedKingdom,includingitsgeography,especiallythehistoricalinfluenceongeography,historicalattractionsandtraditionalfestivals.Thestudentsshouldbeencouragedtopracticetalkingaboutcountries.

Thewholeunitcanbedividedintosevenparts:

warmingup,reading,listeningandspeaking,languagefocusing,readingandwriting,grammar,andassessment.

InWarmingup,thereisaquizforthestudentstodo,whichwillarousethestudents’interestinknowingaboutthedetailedinformationabouttheUnitedKingdom.Whilecheckingtheanswers,theteachercanaddmoreknowledgeabouttheUK,topreparethestudentsforthefollowingprocesses.Inthispart,theteachershouldalsohelpthestudentstodealwiththenewwordsandexpressionsthatwillappearintheReadingpassage.Groupdiscussionandbrainstormingwillbeusedinthisperiodtohelpthestudentstocommunicatewitheachotherusingtheirpreviousknowledge.

ftheUK.TheywillalsolearnaboutthehistoricalattractionsleftbytheinvadersinEnglandandLondon.Inreadingthepassagethestudentsshouldalsopayspecialattentiontothetechniquesofwritingapassageofhumangeography.

InPost-readingpart,thestudentswilldothreeactivities.ThefirstoneistoanswerthreequestionsaccordingtotheReadingpassage.Secondly,thestudentsareaskedtodivideEnglandinto

threedistrictsonamap,whichisbasedonthedeeperunderstanding

ofthepassage.Thirdly,aftergettingthegeneralideaofthepassage,thestudentsshouldwriteasummaryofthepassageinabout50words.
