TheprojectsforthemonetizationandexpansionoftheLouvredatebackto1981.Theyincludedtheconstructionofamainentrancetothemuseum.TheAmericanarchitectofChineseorigin－I.M.Pei－wasinchargeoftheproject.Peidesignedapyramidthathadtobecomeanentrancetothemuseum.Itsglasswallsallowvisitorstoadmirethesurroundinghistoricbuildingsandtolightuptheentrancehall.

TheLouvrecollection

TheLouvretreasurescandatebacktothecollectionofFrancescoI（1515－1547）,whoboughtmanyItalianpaintings.DuringtheruleofLouisXIV（1643－1715）thisamountedtoonly200artworks,butitalsoincreasedasaresultofdonationsandpurchases.Itwasopenedforthefirsttimetothepublicin1793.SincethentheLouvrecollectionhasbeencontinuouslyenriched.
