他的母亲在他11岁时为了让家里的日子过得好一点儿，自己一个人到了阿根廷的首都布宜诺斯艾利斯一个富有的人家，当女佣，后来因为主人连续搬家而断了联系。

13岁的主人公马珥珂，不顾路程的危险，向父亲提出了一个人去南美洲寻找母亲的请求。
