【2016高考训练】阅读理解—推理判断题。

Expensiveperfumes(香水)comeintinybottles,butmanyhideawhale-sizedsecret.

“There'saproblemthatmanypeoplewouldn'tconsider.Inthetree,thechemicalismixedwithmanyothers.Thatmakesseparationachallenge,”Bohlmannsays.”It'sliketryingtoisolatesugarfromabiscuit.”

Thisiswheresciencebecomesuseful.WhenBohlmannlearnedthatfirtreesproducetheambergris-likechemical,hedecidedtousehisgeneknow-howtofindtheinstructionsforhowtomaketheambergris-substitute.

Bohlmannfoundthatgeneandtookitoutofthetreecells.Thenhedidsomethingthatmightsoundstrangetosomeonewhodoesn'tworkingenetics:

Bohlmannputthegenefromthetreeintoyeast(酵母)cells.

Yeastmaysoundfamiliarbecauseit'susedtomakethingslikebread,wineandbeer.Biologistsliketoworktithyeastbecauseiteasilyadoptsnewgenesandchangesitsfeaturesandbehavior.WhenBohlmannputthefirtreeintotheyeast,theyeaststartedmakingthesamechemicalthathadseenproducedbythetree.
