ThisfilmisthestoryofTracy,aprettybutconfusedandinsecure13yearoldgirlfromLosAngeles,whofallsunderthedangerousinfluenceofEvie,another13yearold,whoisconsideredthesexiestandmostpopulargirlintheirschool.Tracyliveswithhermom,Mel,whoisstrugglingtoraisebothherandherbrother,Mason,whilealsotakingcareofherdrugaddictedboyfriend,Brady.Unfortunately,whenTracybecomesbestfriendswithEvie,Tracy’slifestartstofallapartasshebecomesinvolvedwithallofthesocialproblemsassociatedwithyoung,outofcontrolteenagers.
Evie,whowassexuallyabusedasachild,movesinwithTracy’sfamilyafteritbecomesclearthathercaretaker,orcousin,Brooke,isnotabletocontrolher.Evieisheavilyinvolvedwithdrugsandboys,andevenworse,withsuchactivitiesasstealing,piercing(pushingneedlesthroughbodyparts)andevensadomasochism,inwhichpeopletakepleasureinphysicallyhurtingthemselvesandothers.Tracy,whostartedoutasaninnocentkid,soonlearnsalloftheseunpleasantanddangerousbehaviors,andinsodoing,shebecomesaparentalnightmareforherlovingbutoverwhelmedmother.Inshort,thismovieisadisturbingbutrealisticlookatthelivesofyoungteenagegirlstoday,andassuch,itisalsoarevealinglookattheendlessstrugglesofmodernAmericanlife.
