DOverninemonths,thenumberofglobalcasespassed8,000and774peopledied.AlthoughthesenumbersaremuchsmallerthanthenumberforotherdiseasessuchasTBorflu,whichkillmillionseveryyear,theoutbreakwasstillveryalarmingforafewkeyreasons.
F.Epidemicsaredescribedinhistoricalaccountsasearlyas430BCandoneoftheearliestonrecordisJustinian’sPlague.Ithappenedabout500-550ADasRomanEmperorJustinianwasattemptingtorebuildandacquiremorelandfortheRomanEmpire.ItsweptthroughNorthAfrica,theMiddleEastandEurope.
