“Chinamightmoveintherightdirectionintermsofairpollution,butit’sgoingtohavetocontinuerevisingpoliciesjustliketheU.S.andEurope,”saidDanGreenbaum,presidentofHealthEffectsInstitute,whichsupportedtheresearch.
And,whileprematuredeathsduetopollutionintheU.S.andEuropehavedeclinedinrecentdecades,citiesintheWesthavestilltakenstepstoreducepollution.Airpollutionkillsmorethan200,000inEuropeandnearly80,000intheU.S.eachyear,accordingtotheresearch.Thebenefitsofaddressingairpollutionextendbeyondthepeoplewhoexperiencethehealtheffectsofpoorairdirectly.
