Scansshowedthatgreymatterdensity(密度)inthebrainwasgreaterinbilingualsthaninpeoplewithoutasecondlanguage.Butthelongerapersonwaitedbeforemasteringanewlanguage,thesmallerthedifferenceis.

“Ourfindingssuggestthatthestructureofthebrainischangedbytheexperienceoflearningasecondlanguage,”saidthescientists.Itmeansthatthechangeitselfincreasestheabilitytolearn.

ProfessorDylanVaughanJonesoftheUniversityofWaleshasresearchedthelinkbetweenbilingualismandmathskills.“Havingtwolanguagesgivesyoutwowindowsontheworldandmakesthebrainmoreflexible(灵活的),”hesaid,“Youareactuallygoingbeyond(超出)languageandhaveabetterunderstandingofdifferentideas."

ThefindingswerematchedinastudyofnativeItalianspeakerswhohadlearnedEnglishasasecondlanguagebetweentheagesoftwoandthirty-four.Reading,writingandcomprehensionwerealltested.Theresultsshowedthattheyoungertheystartedtolearn,thebetter.“Studyingalanguagemeansyougetanentrancetoanotherworld,”explainedthescientists.

AttheInternationalConferenceonHumanRobotInteraction2020.ResearchersatYaleUniversity’sSocialRoboticsLabtestedhowdogsrespondedtoinstructionsfromrobots.Agroupof34dogsparticipatedintheexperiment,andeachdogwastestedwitheitheraspeakerorahuman-likerobotinaroom.Afterabriefintroductiontothetestingenvironment,therobotorspeakercalledthedog'sname,usingthesamevoice.Thentherobotorspeakerwouldgivea"sit"order,whichwastherealtest.

Resultsoftheexperimentsshowedthatthedogspaidmoreattentiontotherobotthanthespeaker.Dogsobeyedthe"sit"orderover60%ofthetimewhenitcamefromtherobot,butlessthan20%ofthetimewhenitcamefromthespeaker,eveniftheydidlookabitconfusedaboutthewholethingattimes.
