Receivingapositivereception,hewouldgotothelocallibrarytoreadbooksonfamouscomedianstohelphimlearnthetricksofthetrade.HeattendedDeWittClintonHighSchoolintheBronxandstudiedatNewYorkUniversity,beforestartingasaclerkatWarnerBrothers.

Meanwhile,Simoncontinuedtoworkonhisownplays,developingComeBlowYourHornwhichwasafictionalizedversionofhisupbringing.ItopenedonBroadwayin1961andenjoyedrelativesuccess.

Hisnextplay,BarefootInThePark,wasacomedicaccountofhismarriagetoJoanBaim.Convinceditwouldbeafailurebeforeithadevenbegun,Simonbeggedtheproducertopulltheplay.However,tohisdisbelief>BarefootInTheParkprovedtobearunawaysuccess,becameoneofBroadway’slongest-runningplaysandpushedhimtoHollywoodfamewhenitwasmadeintoamoviestarringJaneFondaandRobertRedford.
