Abstract
AmericansocietylinguistDwellHymesthinks:
Communicativecompetencenot
onlyincludestheunderstandingandgrasptoaformoflanguage,butalsoincludesthe
understandingandmasteringinwhenandwhere,andhowandtowhomtouse
languageappropriateformofthecommunicationsystemsofknowledge.Asan
extensionoftheclassroom,out-of-classactivitiesplayavitalroleinimprovingthe
capacityofcollegeEnglishcommunication.Itcancreatecommunicationsituation,so
thatstudentscanbringfullplaywithinitiativeandcreativity.Improvethe
communicativeabilityanddevelopthequalityofthestudentscomprehensively.From
theperspectiveofAppliedLinguistics,thisessaytriestostudytheideaandpractice
ofEnglishactivitycourseincollegeschool,forthepurposeoffosteringstudents
interestinEnglishcommunication,improvingtheirEnglishlanguageability,giving
fullplaytotheirindividualityandspecialtyanddevelopingtheirthinkingabilityand
communicatingability.Finally,inordertoimprovethecollegestudents'learning
strategy,theessaywillprovideasuggestedframeworkforstrategytrainingbasedon
theresultsofthisinvestigation.

1.Introduction
1.1TheSignificanceofTopic
Englishistheinternationallanguageofthecommon.Inordertolearnadvanced
scientificknowledgeinthedevelopedcountries,tostrengtheneconomictradewithall
countries,theimportanceofEnglishiseasilyobvious.However,theteachingmethods
andteachingeffectivenessofourschoolsinChinaareworrisome.Intherecentyears
peopleusuallythinktheEnglishconditionofChinesestudentsas
―muteEnglish
―deafEnglish‖T.heirEnglishlearningstartsfromtheprimaryschool,withalong
periodofsevenyears,eightyears,oreven10years,theystillcannotuseEnglishto
makedialogue,cannotunderstandwhentheBritainandtheAmericansspeak.The
reasonisthattheexam-orientededucationcancultivatestudentswhoareonlygoodat
examinations,overlookingtoraisetheiroverallquality.Out-of-classEnglishlearning
mayenablethemrelatedknowledge,furthertheirskills.
1.2ResearchMethods
Themainmethodsforthestudyareinsistingoncombiningthetheorywith
practiceandwidelyreferringtothedomesticandforeignliteraturematerial.Onthe
basisofthisanalysisandresearch,someregularunderstandingsaretobesummarized.

2.1LinguisticsRationale
2.1.1TheoryofCommunicativeCompetencebyD.H.Hymes
In1972,Hymesdeliveredaspeechentitled―Oncommunicativecompetence‖,
put―communicativecompetence‖asahighlycomplexsystemoftheknowledgeand
skills.Itcanbesummarizedasaperson’asbilitytousethelanguage.Itmainly

includesfouraspects:
grammaticality,acceptability,appropriate,andactual
operational.Thecommunicativecompetenceisincludingaperson'slanguage
knowledge,societyculturalknowledge,literaryknowledge,cognitivecapacity,
emotionfactorandotherknowledge.Therefore,foreignlanguageteaching'sduty
cannotmerelyconfinetotheinstructionoflanguageknowledge.His―On
communicativecompetence‖theoryhasprovidedthetheorybasisforcommunicative
languageteaching.
2.1.2TheoryofCommunicativeCompetencebyCanale&Swain
Inthe1980s,KanamiandSwindontheoryofcommunicativeabilityenrichedthe
theoryofHymes.Theythinkthatcommunicationcapabilitiesinclude:

ability,sociallanguageskills,discoursecompetenceandstrategyability.Thepractice
hasprovedthattheirtheoryistheguidingofthelanguageteachingandstandardofthe
testingprogrammatic.
2.1.3TheoryofCommunicativeCompetencebyBachman
Onthebasisofvarioustheories,Bachmanconcludedandproposedthetheoryof
communicativelanguageability.Hebelievesthatcommunicativelanguageabilityis
composedofthreeparts:
languagecompetence,strategyabilityandpsychological
mechanismcapacity.Apartfromenrichingexpositionofthelanguageability,the
strategywillbeinthecapacityasanindependentpartofthelanguageskills.And
explaintherelativeimportanceofimplementationfactor.
2.2TheoreticalBasisoftheTopic
2.2.1Piaget'sTheory
Constructivistlearningconceptproposedthatknowledgeisnotsimplytobe
taughtbyteachers,buttobelearnedbyeachstudentinacertainsituation(socialand
culturalbackground).Studentscanobtainknowledgeandinformationbymakinguse
ofotherpeople,usingthenecessarylearningmaterialsthroughinterpersonal
cooperation,andtakingtheinitiativetoconstructmeaning.Therefore,the"situation",

"collaboration"and"conversation"and"constructingmeaning"arethefourelements
inthelearningenvironment.
2.2.2AmericanScholar--AlanAndean&Weirabout“RolePlay”
―Roleplayteachingmodelwillsimulatetheprocessofcontactbetween
membersofthesociety.Studentsthroughthewayofconsultation,studyeachkindof
academicknowledge,inorderthattheycansolvethesocialproblemeffectivelyinthe
future.
