Chapter1Introduction
Inthisrapidlydevelopingsociety,diversifiedeconomiesneedmeeting,negotiations.Eachnationuniqueculturalbackgrounds,leadtothedifferencevalues,thinkingmode,andsocialrules.Thecross-culturalcommunicationburgeonsfast,andbecomesthekeypointofourstudy,andturnstothemostimportantpointinEnglishlearning.Englisheducationistooimportanttonotmakepeoplecommunicateflexible;onthecontrarypeoplecanunderstandthemeaningbutcannottosay.Thereareappeared“chinglish”inChinese,andappearedaseriesofjoke,eventhemisunderstanding.Andthenwhywe,theansweristhedifferencebetweencountries,itcontainsthedifferentlanguagewords,differentbackgrounds,anddifferentlanguagecommunications.
Incommunication,accordingtotheresearchofscholarsatlanguage.Rosst(1974)claimedinformationthatisofonly35%,andCross-culturalcommunicationmessageisaseffectfactorsderivedChineseandwesternculturaldifferences.
Asweknow,therearesomanydifferencesbetweencultureoftheEastandWestthatIcannotlistalloftheirdifferentaspects.Iwillfocusonthedifferencesofdietcustomandteachingsystem.Foryourbetterunderstanding,IwillsetexamplesofChinaandAmerica.

Languageandculture.Inabroadsense,cultureiscreatedbyintheprocessofsocialandculturalvalues.Earlyinthe20softhiscentury,AmericanlinguistE.SapirinAnIntroductiontoModernLinguistics“languageisthetoeachother.”Therelationshipbetweenlanguageandcultureisroughlydividedintofourpoints:

2.2Languagereflectsthecultureofanation.
Throughthelanguageofanationpeoplecanunderstandthatthenationalcustoms,lifestyleandthinkingcharacteristicsofculturalcharacteristics.Forexample,intwolinestoparent’sbrothersandsisterstheappellationtheperformanceformsofthelanguage,therearebigdifferencesinEnglishandChinese.InEnglish,onlyuncle,aunttwowords,inChinese,thereare“bo,shu,gu,jiu,yi”nottomix.ThisphenomenonreflectstheChineseclanconceptandthecharacteristicsofthepatriarchalculture.Languageasapartofculture,itsparticularitydisplaysin:

Chineseisalsolikethat.Chinesepeopleemphasisoneating,eatingproblemparticularlyconcernedaboutpeople,sothistopictopic.Peoplealwayspolitetosay“areyoueat?
”whentheymeeting.MostoftheChinesepeopleallknoweatingornoteatingarenotimportant,justgreet,butifyouasktheBritishpeople“areyoueat?
”Hisfirstreactionis"fact,theChineseaskatewhenyoumeetisthesamemeaningasBritishpeoplealwaysasktheweathergoodtoday.Butjustaccordingtotheircustomstoforeigncommunicationcouldmakeeachotheroff.
Chinesepeoplethewest,theywillgladlyacceptyourpraiseandsay“thankyou”.Inaddition,Chinesepeoplethinkmarried,celebratebirthdayandtheoldmandiedallisjoyousoccasion.Forwesterners,married,celebratethebirthdayisdied,inournationalcustoms,physicallawsofnature,theoldmanalifetimewithoutaccidentisajoyousoccasion.SowesternpeoplethinkthisisChina'sspecialpersonality.
ItisnodoubtthatitisatraditiontousechopsticksforChinese.ButpeopleinAmericaprefertoforksandknives.Thisdifferentresultisbasedondifferentfoodtheylike.Americanschoosetoeatbeefsteak,bread,andsalad,whileChinesepeoplechoosenoodles,pancakesandrice.Whatismore,thecustomofdrinkingteainChinaanddrinkingcoffeeinAmericaarestandoutparticularly.However,thereisatrendthatthefoodinbothcountriesmixture.Forexample,thecoffeeandbread.
People on the earthare different place , performance on the way of thinking. Differences between Chinese and Western way of thinking reflected in many aspects.Such as the difference between abstract and concrete, reflected in their attitudes towards life can be understood as Westernersare more practical, and the Chinese are much more biased towards some spiritual experience. Westerners pay attention to logical thinking, but Chinese pay more attention to dialectical thinking and so on. As Chinese and western way of thinking are different.For example,we can see the names of western style are not likeours,they put their given names at the first place,while we put them afear our family names,that is to say,we regard our family more important than ourselves,and it's the way of eastern thinking.Westerners is important in our world and society,and a person should play a important role among our beings.
3.2PoliticaldifferencesontheimpactoflearningEnglish
Westerners"Greekphilosophers,Plato,payattentiontothecultivationofindividualmoralcharacter.Platobelievedthatamanofnobleshouldcanbeartheresponsibilitiesofmanagersinthecitystate.Peopleshouldimprovethemselvesatfirst,andthentorunthecountry;itisthesameasChinesephilosopherofcultivateone'smorality,terms,governingthecountryandtheworld.
3.3TheinfluenceofreligiousbeliefsdifferenttotheEnglishlearning
MostwesternersbelieveinChristianity,thinkgodcreatedeverythin
