Expectingbadnewsandpreparingforfailuremaynotrelieveanxietywhilewaiting,butlateron,itgivespeopleasenseofcontrolovertheirfutures.
Similarly,it’simportantthatpeopledon’tattachtomuchofthemselvestotheresult.“Ifyouconvinceyourselfthebarexamis...justasillyexamyouhavetotakeanddoesn’treflectonyouroryourabilities,that...mighthelpyou..ifthenewsisbad,”shesays.
Worrierscantakecomfort,however.Sweenyfoundthatparticipantswhosuffered-morestresswerebetteratreceivingevenbadnews.Indeed,thosewhohadmoreanxietywhilewaitingfortheirbarexamresultsweremorelikelytoturnaroundandstartstudyingagainiftheyfailed.
