WeboughtalovelyhouseinChesapeake,Virginia,nearNorfolk,andwe’redoing
thatbecausethat’sabetterplaceforthefamilytobe,downtheroad.Andthe
otherthingisIaminphenomenallygoodhealthrightnow.Imeanit’sthegreatest
thingofcognitivedissonanceyouwilleverseeisthefactthatIaminreallygood
shape.Infact,Iaminbettershapethanmostofyou.[Randygetsontheground
andstartsdoingpushups][Applause]Soanybodywhowantstocryorpitymecan
downanddoafewofthose,andthenyoumaypityme.[laughter]

thatwithouttearingup.So,we’rejustgoingtotakethatoffthetable.That’smuch
moreimportant.Andwe’renotgoingtotalkaboutspiritualityandreligion,although
IwilltellyouthatIhaveachievedadeathbedconversion.Ijustboughta
Macintosh.[laughterandclapping]NowIknewI’dget9%oftheaudiencewith
that,but.Allright,sowhatistoday’stalkaboutthen?
It’saboutmychildhood
dreamsandhowIhaveachievedthem.I’vebeenveryfortunatethatway.HowI
believeI’vebeenabletoenablethedreamsofothers,andtosomedegree,lessons
learned.I’maprofessor,thereshouldbesomelessonslearnedandhowyoucan
usethestuffyouheretodaytoachieveyourdreamsorenablethedreamsofothers.
Andasyougetolder,youmayfindthatenablingthedreamsofothersthingiseven
morefun.

archives,andwhatwasreallyamazingwas,Icouldn’tfindanypicturesofmeasa
kidwhereIwasn’tsmiling.Andthatwasjustaverygratifyingthing.Therewasour
dog,right?
Aww,thankyou.AndthereIactuallyhaveapictureofmedreaming.
Anddidalotofthat.Youknow,there’salotofwakeup’s!
Iwasbornin1960.
Whenyouare8or9yearsoldandyoulookattheTVset,menarelandingonthe
moon.Anything’spossible,andthat’ssomethingweshouldnotlosesightof,isthat
theinspirationandthepermissiontodreamishuge.

NotatCMU,no.Iwantedtobecomeoneoftheguyswhowonthebigstuffed
animalsintheamusementpark,andIwantedtobeanImagineerwithDisney.
Thesearenotsortedinanyparticularorder,althoughIthinktheydogetharder,
exceptformaybethefirstone.

Butthatdidn’tworksowell,anditturnsoutthatNASAhassomethingcalledthe
VomitCometthattheyusedtotraintheastronauts.Andthisthingdoesparabolic
arcs,andatthetopofeacharcyougetabout25secondswhereyou’reballistic
andyougetabout,aroughequivalentofweightlessnessforabout25seconds.And
thereisaprogramwherecollegestudentscansubmitproposalsandiftheywinthe
competition,theygettofly.AndIthoughtthatwasreallycool,andwehadateam
andweputateamtogetherandtheywonandtheygottofly.AndIwasall
excitedbecauseIwasgoingtogowiththem.
但那并不怎么管用。
我们知道美国航天局有一种用来训练宇航员的飞机叫做“呕吐彗
星”。
它以抛弧线飞行，在每个弧顶后有大约25秒的时间是如弹道俯冲，大致相当于失重
25秒。
航天局有一个项目让大学生可以比赛提出研究建议，如果他们赢了，他们就能上去
飞。

that’salittletransparent,don’tyouthink?
AndIsaid,yeah,butourprojectisvirtual
reality,andwe’regoingtobringdownawholebunchofVRheadsetsandallthe
studentsfromalltheteamsaregoingtoexperienceitandallthoseotherreal
journalistsaregoingtogettofilmit.
