OverviewofRemoteDiagnosisandMaintenanceforAutomotiveSystems
1.INTRODUCTION
1.1.Currentvehiclediagnosis
AllcarsandlighttrucksbuiltandsoldintheUnitedStatesafterJanuary1,1996arerequiredtobeequippedwithOn-BoardDiagnosticsII(OBD-II).WhiletheprimaryimpetusforOBD-IIwasdiagnosticsforemissionsystems,therangeofvehiclesub-systemsaddressedbythisstandardisquitebroad.TheOBD-IIDiagnosticTroubleCodes(DTCs)aremadeupof5digits[1].Whilethesecodesareusefultoidentifyfaultysubsystems,theyaretypicallynotsufficienttoidentifyspecificfaultycomponents.
