WhenitcametogenesthatwouldinfluenceLaBranaI'sappearance,theresearchersfoundthattheir7,OOO-year-oldsubjecthadversionsoftwoskinpigment（色素）genesthatareeitherveryrareornonexistentamongEuropeanstoday.Thentheylookedatotherplacesinthegenomethatinfluencepigmentation（色素沉着）andfoundamixofancientandmoderngenevariants（变种）.Takentogether,LaBranaI'sDNA“islikelytohaveresultedindarkskinpigmentationanddarkorbrownhair,"theywrote.

However,hisDNAindicatesthathiseyesweremostlikelyblue,thescientistsfound.Thissuggeststhatgenevariantsforlight-coloredeyesandskindidnotspreadtogether,theywrote,addingthatLaBranaI'scombination“ofdarkskinandnon-browneyesisuniqueandnolongerpresentincontemporaryEuropeanpopulations."Today,ablue-eyedpersonwouldtypicallyhavefairskin.
