Researchersalsostudypsychologicalfactors.Theyincludethecomplexdevelopmentofone'spersonalityandhowonehaslearnedtocopewithexternalenvironmentalfactors,suchasstress.Itisfrequentlyobservedthatlowself-esteemandself-defeatingthinkingareconnectedwithdepression.Whileitisnotclearwhichisthecauseandwhichistheeffect,itisknownthatsuffererswhoareabletomakecorrectionstotheirthinkingpatternscanshowimprovedmoodandself-esteem.

Thestudyalsosuggestedthatonthewhole,theolderwebecome,thelesshappyweare.Globally,teenagersarethehappiestpeople.Theagegroupwiththelowestlevelsofhappinesswas50-59.Only16percentofthoseintheir50ssaidtheywereveryhappy.
