IntherecentcomparisonofJapaneseandAmericanpreschooleducation,91percentofJapa-

neserespondentschoseprovidingchildrenwithagroupexperienceasoneoftheirtopthreerea-

sonsforasocietytohavepreschools.Sixty-twopercentofthemoreindividuallyoriented(强调个性发展的)Americanslistedgroupexperienceasoneoftheirtopthreechoices.Anemphasison

theimportanceofthegroupseeninJapaneseearlychildhoodeducationcontinuesintoelementary

schooleducation.

LikeinAmerica,thereisdiversityinJapaneseearlychildhoodeducation.SomeJapanese
