1SCOPE

ThisprocedureisapplicabletoPMCprojects/facilitiescoveredunderthePRCRespiratoryStandard.

2PURPOSE

Inthecontrolofthoseoccupationaldiseasescausedbybreathingaircontaminatedwithharmfuldusts,fogs,fumes,mists,gases,smokes,sprays,orvapors,theprimaryobjectiveshallbetopreventatmosphericcontamination.Thisshallbeaccomplishedasfarasfeasiblebyacceptedengineeringcontrolmeasures（forexample,enclosureorconfinementoftheoperation,generalandlocalventilation,andsubstitutionoflesstoxicmaterials）.Wheneffectiveengineeringcontrolsarenotfeasible,orwhiletheyarebeinginstituted,appropriaterespiratorsshallbeusedpursuanttothisprocedure.

Toprovideguidanceintheselection,fittesting,usage,cleaning,storage,inspection,andmaintenanceofrespiratoryprotectionequipment.Theretentionofprojectrecordsregardingthisissueisalsoincluded.

Air-purifyingrespirator:

Meansarespiratorwithanair-purifyingfilter,cartridge,orcanisterthatremovesspecificaircontaminantsbypassingambientairthroughtheair-purifyingelement.

Assignedprotectionfactor（APF）

Atmosphere-supplyingrespirator:

Meansarespiratorthatsuppliestherespiratoruserwithbreathingairfromasourceindependentoftheambientatmosphere,andincludessupplied-airrespirators（SARs）andself-containedbreathingapparatus（SCBA）units.

Canisterorcartridge:

Meansacontainerwithafilter,sorbent,orcatalyst,orcombinationoftheseitems,whichremovesspecificcontaminantsfromtheairpassedthroughthecontainer.

Demandrespirator:

Meansanatmosphere-supplyingrespiratorthatadmitsbreathingairtothefacepieceonlywhenanegativepressureiscreatedinsidethefacepiecebyinhalation.

Emergencysituation:

Meansanyoccurrencesuchas,butnotlimitedto,equipmentfailure,ruptureofcontainers,orfailureofcontrolequipmentthatmayordoesresultinanuncontrolledsignificantreleaseofanairbornecontaminant.

Employeeexposure:

Meansexposuretoaconcentrationofanairbornecontaminantthatwouldoccuriftheemployeewerenotusingrespiratoryprotection.

End-of-service-lifeindicator（ESLI）:

Meansasystemthatwarnstherespiratoruseroftheapproachoftheendofadequaterespiratoryprotection,forexample,thatthesorbentisapproachingsaturationorisnolongereffective.

Escape-onlyrespirator:

Meansarespiratorintendedtobeusedonlyforemergencyexit.

Filterorairpurifyingelement:

Meansacomponentusedinrespiratorstoremovesolidorliquidaerosolsfromtheinspiredair.

Meansarespiratorinwhichtheairpressureinsidethefacepieceisnegativeduringinhalationwithrespecttotheambientairpressureoutsidetherespirator.

Oxygendeficientatmosphere:

Meansanatmospherewithanoxygencontentbelow19.5%byvolume.

Physicianorotherlicensedhealthcareprofessional（PLHCP）:

Meansanindividualwhoselegallypermittedscopeofpractice（i.e.,license,registration,orcertification）allowshimorhertoindependentlyprovide,orbedelegatedtheresponsibilitytoprovide,someorallofthehealthcareservicesrequiredbythisprocedure.
