StatisticsreleasedbyrelevantdepartmentsofChinashowthatin2006,graduatesfromallChinesecollegesanduniversitiesnumbered4.13million,up750,000from

2005withagrowthrateofroughly22%.Hence,theemploymenttensionfurther

intensifies.Meanwhile,variousintangiblebarriersexistinsocialrelations,regional

restriction,permanentresidencyanduniversity'sreputationhavemadethegraduates'

job-huntingprocesstougher.

Someanalyzethatagainstthebackdropofintensifiedemploymenttensionforuniversitygraduates,needystudentsfromruralandurbanareasusuallyfind

themselvesinrelativelyinferiorpositions.

Somegraduatesrealizethatinordertogetajob,theyhavetosignsome"unfairtreaties"thatpromisenottotakethepostgraduateexamorleavethecompanywithin

severalyears,ortheyhavetopay5,000Yuanforbreachingthecontract.Some

recruitersevendeclareopenlythattheyonlyneedstudentsfromfamousuniversities,

sograduatesfromotherschoolsarenotevenentitledtoapply.

CurrentlythecontradictioninChina'shighereducationhastransferredfromentering

toleavingauniversityandfromthedifficultyinenrollmenttoemploymentafter

togooutandlookforabankwhereIcouldopenanaccount.BeforethatIlookedin

thephonebooksinceIhadnoclueaboutanybanksaroundhereorwheretheywere

located.Iwenttothebankandmadedecisionsformyself—whethertohavea

checkingorsavingsaccountandwhetherornottogetaMASTERcard.

HowCanWeFinanceOurCollegeEducation?

Nowadays,tuitionfeesforcollegearemuchhigherthaneverbefore.Howto

financeourcollegeeducationhasbecomeamatterofconcernformanystudents,

especiallythosewhoarefromtheremoteareas.

Actually,therearemanywaystosolvethisproblem.Wecangetthemoneyfromourparents.Wecanapplyforaloanespeciallysetupforcollegestudents.Wecan

alsoacquirethemoneyentirelybyourselves,keepingapart-timejobinourspare

timeanddoingafull-timejobinsummerandwinterholidays.Orwecanaskour

parentsformostofthemoneyandearntherestinoursparetimeincollege.

AsfarasIamconcerned,Ipreferthelastway.Idon'twanttodependentirelyonmyparents,whichwillbeaburdentothem.NordoIwanttoworkinmyfreetimefor

thetuitionalone,becauseIwouldliketohaveenoughtimeformyschoolwork.Ifmy

parentspaymostofthetuitionforme,Iwillworkparttimefortherestandthis,I

believe,canmakemycollegeliferichandcolorful.

IntroductionofMyCollege

I'mastudentatMaebashiInstituteofTechnologyinGunma.ItislocatedbetweenKomagataandShinmaebashiontheJRRyomoLine.It'sonly10minutes

fromJRMaebashistationonabusorataxi.

Maebitwasoriginallyfoundedin1952asajuniorcollegeanditevolvedintoafour-yearcollegein1997.Todaytherearesome700studentsinboththejunior

collegeandthefour-yearundergraduateschool.

Ourschoolofferstwosetsofprograms,thedaycourseandtheeveningcourse.Studentscanchoosewhicheversuitstheirconveniencesbestfromthosetwocourses.

Manylessonsherearetaughtinsmall-sizedclasses.

I'mintheDepartmentofInformationEngineering.MyfieldofstudyisRobotics.

Thefirstperiodbeginsat9:

30a.m.,whichisratherlate,andthelastperiodoftheday

courseendsat4:

55p.m.Theclassesfortheeveningcoursebeginat5:

45p.m.andend

50p.m.

Maebit'scampusisnotverylargebutithasalotofflowerbedsandplants.On

campustherearethelibrary,theclubbuilding,sportsfields,thestudentunionhall,

thelaboratorybuilding,andmanyotherfacilities.Ourdepartmentbuildingliesinthe

northwestcornerofcampus.Thisbuildingwasbuiltaboutfiveyearsago,and

everythingisstillnewinthisbuilding.

Therearemanyclubs,butI'mnotamemberofanyclub.Oneofmyfriendsisa

memberoftheTennisClubinwhichthereare5members.Theypracticeevery

WednesdayandSaturdayafternoon.Theyarehopingtomakeitintothebest8inthe

comingintercollegiatetournament.

Ilikemycollege.Ihavealreadymadesomegoodfriendsandwe'reenjoyingour

schoollife.

CopingwithStressinCollege

Collegelifecanbeverystressful.Sometimesparents,facultyandotherstendtoidealizetheircollegeexperienceandrememberitasthatidyllictimewhentheyhad

fewworriesorresponsibilities.Tostudentscurrentlyattendingcollege,however,the

processisoftenstressfulandfrustrating.Thecompetitionforgrades,theneedto

perform,relationships,careerchoice,andmanyotheraspectsofthecollege

environmentcausestress.

Butbeforecondemningstressoutright,weneedtounderstandthatstressisonlyharmfulwhenitisexcessive.Muchofthestressthatweallexperienceishelpfuland

stimulating.Thechallengesoflifetendtobestressfulandanattempttoavoidstress

completelywouldleadtoaratherboringexistence.Theproblemcomeswhenyou

experiencetoomuchstress.

Therearefourprimarysourcesofstress:

theenvironment,(noise,pollution,

traffic,crowding,andtheweather),physiology,(illness,injuries,hormonal

fluctuations,andinadequatesleepornutrition),students’thoughts(negativeself-talk,

catastrophizing,andperfectionism),andsocialstressors(financialproblems,work

demands,socialevents,andlosingalovedone).Symptomsofstressappearinmany

forms.Somesymptomsonlyimpactthepersonwhoisdirectlyexperiencingstress,

whileothersymptomsmayhaveanimpactonourrelationshipswithothers.

Althoughsomestressreactionsarepartofdeeperandmoreseriousemotional

problems,manyarenot,andcanbehandledwithrelativelysimplecounselingand

stress-managementtechniques.Developingabalancedlifestyle,gainingperspective

bydiscussingproblemswithotherstudentsortutors,specifyingrelaxationtechniques,

andclarifyingyourvaluesandcultivatingasenseoflifemeaningcanhelpyourelieve

yourstressincollege.

Sports

Fromtheearliesttimes,peoplehaveheldsportscompetitions.Theathleticfewcompeteonthefieldwhiletherestofusparticipatefromthesafetyofourseats.

Todaysportsarecertainlyaspopularasever,andbecauseofradioandtelevision,we

cannowcompetefromadistance.

Infact,forimportantcompetitions,thewholeworldbecomesonebigstadium.

Itishardtosaywhyhumanslikeorganizedgames.Thereasonsthatweenjoy

sportsprobablydifferfrompersontoperson.Whetherlittlekidsarekickingaball

aroundacityplayground,ormillion-dollar-a-yearathletesareplayinginamodern

stadium,theexcitementofcompetition,motion,discipline,andbeautyareintheair.

Whodoesn’tstoptowatchaballgameinthestreetoraswimmerinapool?

parentsarenotproudtoseetheirchildrencarriedoffthefieldbythankfulfans?

theplayers,thejoysofsportsmanshipcanincludepunishingself-disciplineandthe
