ItisveryeasytoseeHillaryRodhamClintononthenewspapereverymorning,sheisbusytosolveforeignmatterandadvisethePresidentObamaonmatterrelatingtoforeignissues.HillaryClintonisoneofthemostsuccessfulwomenpoliticiansintheAmerica.However,historyofwomanpoliticianismuchshorterthanman,theincreasingnumberofwomanpoliticianshowsthatpublicansneedthem.
WomeninUnitedStateshaveseenastheywerenotinterestedandnotinvolvedinthepolitics.Theyweremotheroftheirchildrenandwivesoftheirhusbands,theywerenotseenasindividualsinpublic.Americanwomenspendalmost200yearstofightfortheirrightinpolitics,theserightincludevoting,positioninCongressandpresidentialelection.Since19thcenturywomenstartedtoarguethatwomenshouldhavesamerightinpolitics,andthiscountryshouldnotbeonlycontrolledbymale.CurrentlyinUnitedStated,womenareplayingmoreimportantroleinpoliticsthanyearsago.
Womeninpublicofficearedoingbetterinseveralareas,andwomenarehighlyvaluablewhenitcomestoissueslikedealingwithpoor,healthcare,education,homelessness,agingandtheenvironment.Although,womenfacesignificantdisadvantagesinrunningforofficeandwinningvoter.
VotingisthemostimportantrighttowomeninAmerica.ButtherighttovotedidnotcomeeasilyforallAmericanwomen.Thehistoryofwomensuffragestartedbefore300years,anditwasveryhardtosucceed.
Duringthe19thcentury,asmalesuffragewasgraduallyextendedintheUnitedState,womenbecameincreasinglyactiveinthequestfortheirownsuffrage.Thebeginningofthefightforwomensuffrageistracedtothe''DeclarationofSentiments''producedatthefirstwoman'srightsconventioninSenecaFalls,N.Y.in1848.Afterseveralyears,SusanB.Anthonyjoinedthefight,arguingthat''Itwaswe,thepeople,notwe,thewhitemalecitizens;noryetwe,themalecitizen;butwe,thewholepeople,whoformedtheUnion.Andweformeditforwomenaswellasmen.Itisadownrightmockerytoassurewomenoftheirenjoymentoftheblessingoflibertywhiletheyaredeniedtheuseoftheonlymeansofsecuringthemprovidedbythisgovernment—theballot(15).''
SuffragistsbroughtaseriesofcourtchallengestotestwhethervotingwasaprivilegeofU.S.Citizenshipnowbelongingtowomen.OnesuchchallengegrewoutofSusanB.Anthonyforillegallyvotingin1872election.ThefirstcasetomakeitswaytotheSupremeCourt.ButCourtrejectedtheargumentthat14thAmendmentextendedthevotetowomen.ThensuffragiststurnedtheirattentionfromthecourttothestatesandtoCongress.In1878,anamendmentwasproposedthatprovidedtherightofcitizenstovoteshallnotbeabridgedbytheUnitedStatesorbyanyStateonaccountofsex.ThissameamendmentwouldbeintroducedineverysessionofCongressforthenext41years.
In1890,theTerritoryofWyomingallowedwomentovote,anditwasadmittedasastate.Wyomingbecamethefirststatewithwomensuffrage.By1900,Utah,andColoradojoinedWyominginallowingwomentovote.
Thenecessarytwo-thirdsvoteinfavorofthewomensuffrageamendmentwasfinallymusteredinCongress.Theroleofwomanhavechangedsince1920.ThepassageofNineteenthAmendmenttotheUnitedStatesConstitution,whichistherightofcitizensoftheUnitedStatestovoteshallnotbedeniedorabridgedbytheUnitedStatesorbyanyStateonaccountofsex.Although,SuffrageortherighttovotewasachievedgraduallyanduneasyforallwomeninUnitedStates.
Since1964,morewomenthanmenvotedforpresidentialelection.Itisclearthatwillcontinuetobeamajorityofthevoting.Andeversince,thefemaleinfluenceonAmericanelectionshasbeensnowballing.Morethanever,it'sseeninthewaypollsterpoll,journalistsreport,andcampaign.Suddenly,maleandfemaleperspectivesonpoliticsareantvirtualparity(Mclaughlin3).Inthe2000elections,thepercentageofwomenvotingishigherthanmenreportedvoting.Therateofwomenvoteswashigh,about7.8millionmorewomenthanmenvotedinthe2000elections.In2008,women'svoteswereasignificantfactorinSenatorBarackObama'svictory,womenstronglypreferredObamatoSenatorJohnMcCain.
