Song'stitleisanimportantpartofasong,inthetitle,althoughthereisnotmanywords,thetitleofasongsummarizesthewholesong'sspiritandshowsthemainmeaningofasong.Goodsongscangiveapersonadeepimpression,thusmakesongsgetalongrunninginthehistoryallovertheworld.Sofar,EuropeandmanyfamousmasterpieceshavebeentranslatedintoChinese,yetforthetranslationexplorerofEnglishsongtitlearenotmany,inordertopromoteChineseandwesternmusiccultureintoabetterfuture,thetitleofEnglishsongcannotbeallowedtoignore.

Thetranslationofsongtitlesnotonlyneedstobeaccurate,toconveythebasicinformationofsongsconcisely,tointerpretthedifferencesbetweenChineseandWesterncultures,butalsoneedstoconsidertheaestheticpsychologyofaudiences.Thecontrollingabilityoflanguageandcultureshowinawonderfulsongtitlewillgetnumerousacclaimsfromaudiences.Thethesisanalyzesthecharacteristicandthefunctionofthesongtitles;meanwhile,itillustratessomeprincipleandsomebasicapproachesandmethodsofthetranslationofEnglishsongtitles,whichareexpectedtobeusefultoteachingandthosepeoplewhoworkforthetranslationofEnglishsongtitles.

I.Introduction

Asongisoneofthegreatestpartsofhumanarts,andthesongsalsobringhumanbeingsendlessimaginationandcreativity.Songisdifferentfromotherart,ittransmitsinformationthroughactingonhuman’sauditorynerve.Butasongdoesn’tsimplymeanmusic.Thedefinitionofmusicisvoice（s）orinstrument（s）orbothinapleasingsequenceorcombination.Asongmeansmusicforthevoiceorpoemsettomusicandintendedtobesung.Thereforeasongiscloselyrelatedtohumanlinguisticculture.Withthedevelopmentofoursociety,moreandmorepeopleliketolistentothemusicfromallovertheword,andthetranslationoftheEnglishsongtitlesisasimportantasthatofEnglishsongwords,thetranslationofthesongtitlesisakindofactionofcross-culturalcommunication.Concerningbothwiththecontextandthedifferentculturebackground,howtodoagoodtranslationisworththinking.Withthedevelopmentofoursociety,moreandmorepeopleliketolistentomusicallovertheworld,andthetranslationoftheEnglishsongtitlesisasimportantasthatofEnglishsongwords,besides,correcttranslationofEnglishsongtitlescankeepthebeautyofthesongsandthespiritofthecomposers.However,mistranslationwillmakepeoplemisunderstandthethemesofsongsandthespiritofthecomposers,whichcannotachievetheaimofpopularizingthebeautiesofsongsallovertheworld.Therefore,weshouldfocusonsomespecificwaysandskillsthatcanhelpustranslatetheEnglishsongtitleswellandunderstandthesongswell.
