Thechangedgeneswereassociatedwithdiet,behavior,andmovement,whichaddedpressuresandchallengesfortherattoovercome.Thiscouldreflectthefactthaturbanratshavetomovethroughhighlyartificialenvironmentsthatareverydifferentfromnaturalhabitats.Sothesegenechangesmighthaveevolvedtohelpthemmovemoreeasilythroughundergroundchannelsandpipes.

Astheratsarecloselyassociatedwithcity-livinghumans,thescientistsbelievethatitispossiblethatsimilarchangeshavehappenedinbothspecies.

InOctober2019,scientistsusedratstosuccessfullytestanenzyme(酶)thatcouldbeusedtohelppeoplequitsmoking.Twogroupsofratsweretrainedtoself-administernicotine,andovertwoweekstheirnicotineintakesincreased,suggestingaddiction.Then,onegroupofratswasgiventheenzyme,whichledtoadecreasednicotineintake.
