Livingdocument:

Thisguideisintendedtopromoteaconsistentrepresentationofthe3DSlicerbrandthroughoutitsuseintheopensourcecommunity.Theguidecangrowovertimetoaddressthedevelopmentofwrittenandvisualcommunications（websites,publications,grantproposals,posters,reports,etc.）astheneedarises.

Muchofthedocumentisgeneralanddescriptive,andsomeguidelinesareveryspecific.

Ourname:

Inanyformalcommunication,thenameofthesoftwarepackageiswrittenintwochunks,3DSlicer,usinganuppercaseDandanuppercaseSandwithaninterveningspace.

Toadmitreferencesto3DSlicerassimply“Slicer”,the3Dmaybedroppedaftertheformalnameisgiven.Whenreferringtothesoftwarepackageas“Slicer”,anuppercaseSisused.Toadmitthecommonpracticeofappendingtheversionnumbertothesoftwarepackagenameandtheimportantfunctionalitydistinctionsthatallows,Theversionnumbermaybewrittenaspartofthenamewithoutanyinterveningspace:

Thebrandisatranslationofourcorevaluesintopeople’sperceptionof3DSlicer.Thebrandcommunicatesasetofattributesthatmakethesoftwareproductandthesoftwaredevelopmenteffortdistinct,anditembodieswhatthecommunitythinksandfeelsabout3DSlicer.Thisimportantaspectofthebrandisintangible,existsinthemindsofpeopleinthecommunity,andisnotimmunetochange,especiallyinanopensourceanddistributedsoftwaredevelopmentproject.
