Abstract

GoneWiththeWind,acompellingandentertainingnovelbasedontheAmericancivilwarasbackground,tellsusScarlettO'Hara'slifeexperiencefrom16to28.Itwasasweeping,romanticstoryabouttheAmericancivilwarfromthepointofviewoftheconfederacy.Inparticular,it'sthestoryofScarlett,aheadstrongsouthernbellewhosurvivesthehardshipsofthewarandafterwardsmanagestoestablishasuccessfulbusinessbycapitalizingonthestruggletorebuildthesouthbecauseofherrarecourage.Throughoutthebook,sheismotivatedbyherunfulfilledloveforAshleyWilkes,anhonorablemanwhoishappilymarried.Afteraseriousofmarriagesandfailedrelationshipswithothermen,notablythedashingRhettButler,shehasachangeofheartanddeterminestowinRhettback.
