ADJECTIVES

Mostwriterssowadjectivesalmostunconsciouslyintothesoiloftheirprosetomakeitmorelushandpretty,andthesentencesbecomelongerandlongerastheyfillupwithstatelyelmsandfriskykittensandhard-bittendetectivesandsleepylagoons.Thisisadjective-by-habit—ahabityoushouldgetridof.Noteveryoakhastobegnarled.Theadjectivethatexistssolelyasdecorationisaself-indulgenceforthewriterandaburdenforthereader.
