Sincefinishingmyapprenticeshipovertwoyearsago,I’vehadcountlessopportunitiestodevelopmyselfbothacademicallyandpersonally.I’veboughtmyfirsthome;IwaschosentobeapartoftheGovernment’sGetInGoFarapprenticeshipcampaign,andofferedanamainganduniquesecondment(人员借调)withtheEnvironment,Health,SafetyandQualitydepartmentatSellafield.
IhavenodoubtthatwithoutmyapprenticeshipIwouldn’tbeinthepositionIamtoday,butequallyInowthatitwasonlythebeginningforme.
Myapprenticeshipinspiredmetoeploredifferentcareerpathsinthenuclearindustry,anditgavemetheconfidenceto

Thesieofafootballfield,thetelescopeissosensitivethatitcouldpicupsignalssentfromanalienworld.Andscientistscan’twaitforthattohappen.
“Allthesignalsthatwenowreceivewiththehelpoftelescopesaresignalsthatcomefromcosmicobjects—stars,galaies.Wehavenotyetreceivedanythingfromintelligentciviliations,”scientistRichardLynchsaid.
Localpeoplerespecttheworofthescientists.“Yes,wearedifferent.Manywouldsaythatwelivetheold-fashionedway,inthepast.Butforus,it’sjustthewayoflifethatwehavealwayslived,”Sherrysaid.
