GENERAL
Scope
Thisspecificationcoversthetechnicalrequirementsforinstallation,assemblyanderectionofstructuralsteel.
“Owner”whenusedinthisSpecificationshallmeantheKoreaNationalOilCompanyoritsauthorizedrepresentative.
“Contractor”whenusedinthisSpecificationshallmeanthecompanythathasagreedtocompletetheWork.

Submittals
Contractorshallobtain,review,approveandutilizeshopfabricatorserectiondrawings.Asneeded,Contractorshallsupplementshopfabricator’serectiondrawings.
Atleast14dayspriortothejobstartdate,ContractorshallsubmitthefollowingtoOwnerforreviewandapproval:
Erectiondrawingsshowingalltemporarybracing,supports,erectionlugsandguysnecessaryfortheerectionofthestructures.
Erectionplans,includingadetaileddescriptionofproposederectionmethods,sequence,andequipment.
Ifweldingisinvolvedintheerectionofsteelstructures,ContractorshallsubmitacopyofthefollowingcertificatesorqualificationstoOwnerforreviewandapprovalatleast14daysbeforethestartofwelding:
a)CanadianWeldingBureau’sweldingcertificateforthecompanyundertakingweldingperCSAW47.1Division1or2.1,
CanadianWeldingBureau’sapprovedweldingprocedurestobeusedperCSAW59,
CanadianWeldingBureau’squalificationtestrecord(s)ofthewelder(s)oroperator(s)perCSAW47.1,
Productdataoftheweldingelectrodes,
Productdataofpaintingandcoatingmaterials.
ContractorshallgiveOwneratleast7daysnoticebeforetheplannedstartoferectionworktoallowOwnertoinspecttheworkpreparation.
MATERIALS
General
AllstructuralsteelmaterialsandfabricationshallconformtotherequirementsofSpec.No.Z08400-36-30-SPC-002Supply&FabricationofStructuralSteel.
Allmaterialstobeincorporatedintothepermanentsteelstructuresshallbeofnewstock,unlessnotedotherwiseintheprojectdocuments.
WeldingelectrodesshallbelowhydrogenelectrodesmeetingtherequirementsofCSAW48ClassE49XX.
PaintandcoatingmaterialsshallconformtotherequirementsofSpec.No.Z08400-32-40-SPC-023MechanicalSpecificationforPainting&Coating.
MATERIALHANDLINGANDERECTIONPREPARATIONS
MaterialHandlingandStorage
Structuralsteelshallbetransportedfromthestorageareatotheerectionsiteinasafeandtimelymannertopreventdamagetothesteelandthesurfacecoatings.
Allsteelshallbeblockedofftheground.
Coatedsurfacesshallnotbestackedface-to-face.Woodblocksorothersuitablenon-abrasivematerialsshallbeusedtoseparatesectionsorcomponents.
Contractorshalltakenecessaryprecautionsduringloading,transportation,unloading,andstackingofsteelmaterialssothatcoatingwillnotbedamagedandmemberswillnotbebent,broken,deformed,orotherwisedamaged.
DamagecausedbyhandlingduringerectionshallbereportedtoOwner.Correctivemeasuresshallbecompletedasdirected,andallcostshallbebornebyContractor.
ErectionPreparation
Alltemporarybracing,supports,erectionlugsandguysshallbedesignedanderectedbyContractortoresistallloadstowhichthestructuremaybesubjectedduringerection.Suchbracing,supportsandguysshallbeleftinplaceuntilnolongerrequiredasashippingorinstallationsafetymeasureandthestructureisfullysecuredtothefoundation.RemovalshallbebytheContractor.
Contractorshallverifythelocationsandelevationsoftheas-builtfoundations,anchorbolts,pilecapplatesandotherrelevantitemsbeforeerectingthesteelstructures.Ownershallbenotifiedimmediatelyofanynon-conformancesordiscrepancies.
Contractorshallchecktheminimumgroutthicknessforsteelstructurebaseplatesbeforeerectingthecolumn.UnlessotherwisespecifiedonthedesigndrawingsorapprovedbyOwner,theminimumgroutthicknessshallbe25mm.
Contractorshalltakeallnecessaryprecautionsduringloading,transportation,unloadingandstackingsteelsothatcoatingswillnotbedamagedandmemberswillnotbebent,broken,deformedorotherwisedamaged.
Contractorshallprovideallnecessaryprotectionstoadjoiningexistingfacilitiestopreventdamagesduringtheerectionofsteelstructures.Adjacentpaintedorcoatedsteelsurfaces,includingthoseunderneaththespotstobewelded,shallbeproperlycoveredduringweldingtopreventdamagestothecoatingorpaint.
ERECTION
General
Unlessotherwisespecifiedorshownonthedrawings,theerectionofstructuralsteelshallconformtoCAN/CSA-S16,andCISC‘CodeofStandardPracticeforStructuralSteel’.
Theerectionofsteelstructuresshallcommenceonlywhenshimsandanchorsareinaconditionthattheycanadequatelysupportalltheloadssubjectedtothem.
Eachpartofastructureshallbeproperlyalignedbeforecompletingfieldconnections.Allmembersincompletedframesshallbetruetolineandfreefrombends,twists,andopenjoints.
Generally,allfieldconnectionsshallbebolted.FieldweldedconnectionsshallbemadeonlywhereshownonthedrawingsorwhereauthorizedinwritingbyOwner.
Fitting-upboltsanddriftpinsshallnotbeusedtobringimproperlyfabricatedoralignedmembersandpartsintoplacethuscausingastrainonboltsinfinishedwork.Forotheruses,driftpinsshallnotbedrivenwithsuchforceastoinjureadjacentmetal.Nopacking,shimmingorwedgingshallbepermittedtocorrectfaultywork.
Holesnotfurnishedbythestructuralsteelfabricatorbutrequiredforerectionshallbefielddrilled.Theuseofflamecuttingtomakeorenlargeholesshallnotbepermitted.
Contractorshallnotcut,drillorotherwisealterthesteelstructuresortheworkofotherstoaccommodateothertradesortheContractor’sownwork,unlesssuchcutting,drillingoralterationarespecifiedclearlyintheprojectdocumentsorapprovedinwritingbyOwner.
Minormisfitting,whichcanberemediedbyreaming,cuttingand/orgrinding,maybecorrectedwhenapprovedinwritingbyOwner.
AllshoperrorsshallbereportedtoOwnerimmediatelyupondiscovery.
Fasteningofsplicesforcompressionmembersshallbedoneafterabuttingsurfaceshavebeenbroughtcompletelyintocontact.Splicesshallbepermittedonlywhereindicatedonthedesigndrawingsorshopdrawings.
Erectionboltsusedinweldedconstructionshallbetightenedsecurelyandleftinplace,orremovedwiththeholesplugweldedandgroundsmooth.
ErectiontolerancesshallbeinaccordancewithCAN/CSA-S16.
PileCaps,BaseplatesAndGrouting
Pilecapplatesforsteelpilesshallbelocatedasshownonthedrawings.Centerlinesofplateandpilemaynotbeinalignmentduetothehorizontaltoleranceallowedfordrivingthepiles.
