Whenhetookoffice,GeorgeW.Bush,sonofformerpresidentGeorgeHerbertWalkerBush,becamethefirstsontofollowhisfatherintotheWhiteHousesinceJohnQuineyAdamsfollowedJohnAdamsintheearly19thcentury.

BushwasbornonJuly6,1946,inNewHaven,Connecticut,thefirstchildofGeorgeHerbertWalkerBushandBarbaraPierceBush.AlthoughGeorgeHerbertWalkerBushbeganhiscareerintheoilindustry,hefinallyservedasacongressman(国会议员),andvice(副)presidentandpresidentoftheUnitedStates.

Attheageoftwo,BushmovedwithhisparentsfromConnecticuttoOdessa,Texas,wherehisfathertookuptheoilbusiness.AfterayearinTexas,thefamilymovedtoCaliforniaforbusinessreasons.Ayearlater,thefamilyreturnedtoTexasandsettledinMidland,whereBushlivedfrom1950to1959.

In1959,againforbusinessreasons,thefamilymovedtoHouston,Texas.In1961BushleftTexasandwenttoAndover,Massachusetts,toattendPhillipsAcademy,aboardingschool(寄宿学校)thathisfatherhadalsoattended.

AtPhillips,Bushplayedbasketball,baseball,andfootball.Hewasbestknownforbeingheadcheerleader.In1964heenrolledatYaleUniversityinConnecticut.HisfatherandgrandfatherhadalsoattendedYale.AtYale,Bushwasconsideredanaveragestudent,buthewaspopularwithhisclassmates.
