China'sFive-hundred-meterApertureSphericalRadioTelescope（FAST）hasdetectedarepeatingfastradioburst（FRB）-mysteriousradiosignalsfromouterspace-forthefirsttime,ScienceandTechnologyDailyreported.
ScientistsontheFASTprojectwiththeNationalAstronomicalObservatoriesofChina（NAOC）revealedthenewslastWednesday.TheFRBoriginatedsomethreebillionlightyearsawayfromEarth.Otherfactorsincludingaircraftandsatelliteshavebeendismissedandcrossexaminationisbeingcarriedout,thescientistssaid.
FRBhassincebecomeoneofthehottesttopicsinastronomy.Itwasnotuntil2007whenthefirstFRBwasdiscoveredbyhumans.Fewerthan100FRBshavebeendetectedinternationally.ThereisstillnoreasonableexplanationfortheoriginofFRBintheinternationalscientificcommunityatpresent.FRBsmostlyonlyappearonce,whichmakesthemveryhardtotrack.
TheFRBdetectedbyFAST'sreal-timedetectionterminal（终端），however,isonethathasbeenobservedbefore,saidZhangXinxin,anassistantengineerwiththeNAOC.KnownasFRB121102,itwasfirstdiscoveredin2012andfoundtorepeatin2015.Analysisofdatalaterlocatedthesourceofthesignalcomingfromadwarfgalaxy（矮星系）threebillionlightyearsaway.ThefirstpulsefromFRB121102wasspottedbyFASTonAug302019.Afterthis,thetelescoperecordeddozensofpulsesfromtheFRBoverthecourseofdays.OnSept32019alone,morethan20pulsesweredetected.
Thenumberofmysteriousburstsdetectedsofaristoosmalltodrawanyconclusions,Zhangsaid.FAST,theworld'slargestsingle-dishradiotelescope,hasacertainedgeindetectingrepeatedFRBs.Thisisbecausethe19-beamreceiverinstalledonFAST,coveringfrequencyrangesof1.05-1.45GHz,isverysensitivetoradiosignals,Zhangsaid.
