AfterfortydaysNoahopenedthetrap-doorthathehadmadeintheark,andreleasedaraventoseewhetherthewaterhadsubsided,butthebirdcontinuedflyingtoandfrountilthewaterontheearthhaddriedup.Noahwaitedforsevendays,andthenhereleasedadovefromthearktoseewhetherthewaterontheearthhadsubsidedfurther.Butthedovefoundnoplacewhereshecouldsettle,andsoshecamebacktohimintheark,becausetherewaswateroverthewholesurfaceoftheearth.Hewaitedanothersevendaysandagainreleasedthedovefromtheark.Shecamebacktohimtowardseveningwithanewlypluckedoliveleafinherbeak.ThenNoahknewforcertainthatthewaterontheearthhadsubsidedstillfurther.Hewaitedyetanothersevendaysandreleasedthedove,butshenevercameback.Andsoitcameaboutthat,onthefirstdayofthefirstmonthofhissixhundredandfirstyear,thewaterhaddriedupontheearth,andNoahremovedthehatchandlookedoutoftheark.Thesurfaceofthegroundwasdry.Bythetwenty-seventhdayofthesecondmonththewholeearthwasdry.AndGodsaidtoNoah,‘Comeoutoftheark,youandyourwife,yoursonsandtheirwives.Bringouteverylivingcreaturethatiswithyou,livethingsofeverykind,birdandbeastandeveryreptilethatmovesontheground,andletthemswarmovertheearthandbefruitfulandincreasethere.’SoNoahcameoutwithhissons,hiswife,andhissons’wives.Everywildanimal,allcattle,everybird,andeveryreptilethatmovesontheground,cameoutofthearkbyfamilies.ThenNoahbuiltanaltartotheLord.Hetookrituallycleanbeastsandbirdsofeverykind,andofferedwhole-offeringsonthealtar.WhentheLordsmeltthesoothingodor,hesaidwithinhimself,‘NeveragainwillIcursethegroundbecauseofman,howeverevilhisinclinationsmaybefromhisyouthupwards.Iwillneveragainkilleverylivingcreature,asIhavejustdone.’
