Inthelonghistoryoftheworld,onlyafewgenerationshavebeengrantedtheroleofdefendingfreedominitshourofmaximumdanger.Idonotshrinkfromthisresponsibility--Iwelcomeit.Idonotbelievethatanyofuswouldexchangeplaceswithanyotherpeopleoranyothergeneration.Theenergy,thefaith,thedevotionwhichwebringtothisendeavorwilllightourcountryandallwhoserveit--andtheglowfromthatfirecantrulylighttheworld.
Andso,myfellowAmericans:
asknotwhatyourcountrycandoforyou--askwhatyoucandoforyourcountry.
Myfellowcitizensoftheworld:
asknotwhatAmericawilldoforyou,butwhattogetherwecandoforthefreedomofman.
