Hume’senquiryintothenatureofknowledgelaidthefoundationsforthescientificmethod-thepursuitoftruththroughexperiment.HisfriendandfellowresidentofEdinburgh,AdamSmith,famouslyappliedthestudyofmankindtothewaysinwhichmankinddoesbusiness.Trade,heargued,wasaformofinformation.Inpursuingourownintereststhroughtradinginmarkets,weallcometobenefiteachother.
