Somepeoplethinkschoolsshouldonlyteachstudentsacademicsubjects.Othersthinkschoolsshouldalsoteachstudentshowtodiscriminatebetweenrightandwrong.Discussbothviewsandgiveyourownopinion.
Theschoolhaslongbeenregardedastheplacethatimprovespeople’scareerprospectsandgeneratespersonalwealth.Thisnotionhasbeen,however,beenrefutedbymanypeoplewhobelievethateducationshouldincludeandemphasizemoraleducation.Inmyopinion,studentswhohavebehavioralproblemscannotachievesuccesseasily,regardlessoftheiracademicperformance.
Manyteachersbelievethatstudentsshouldfocusoncoresubjects,asthesecoursesdecidewhethertheycangetintocollegelater.Theknowledgethatisacquiredinthesecountriescanprovideaflyingstartinstudents’careerdevelopment.Ifstudentsneedtospendtimestudyingmoralprinciplesandbehavioralnorms,theyfeeltimepressure.
Thereisnodenyingthatmoraleducationcanraisestudents’awarenessofsomeimportantvirtues,suchashonesty,integrityandaltruism,whicharecrucialtosocialprogressandsocialcohesion.Ifstudentsrecognizethesevirtues,theywouldunderstandhowtogetalongwithotherpeopleandhowtocareaboutothers’benefits.Inthisway,theycanapplytheirknowledgetomakecontributiontosociety,andwillformmeaningfulrelationshipswithothers.
Personally,Ithinkthatstudents’understandingofmoralitydeterminestheirsuccess.Thisnotimprovestheirbehavioratschoolbutalsopreventssomebehaviorproblems,suchassmoking,drinkingandsexualbehaviorandsoon.Theseproblemswillaffecttheirstudentsandcauseirreparable(impossibletorepairormakerightagain)damagetotheircareerdevelopment.Forexample,ifstudentsdonotrealizetheimpactofexcessivedrinking,thishabitmayinfluencetheirworkingperformanceandtheirhomelifeaftertheyreachadulthood.
Inviewoftheimportanceofmoraleducationtosocialdevelopmentandpersonalachievement,itshouldbeincludedinschools’curriculum.Withoutmoraleducation,thesocietyisteemingwithirresponsiblebehaviorwhileyoungpeoplearenotlikelytoleadameaningandfulfillinglife.
