diagnosedwithMultipleSclerosiswhenmybrotherandIwereyoung.Andevenasakid,Iknewtherewereplentyofdayswhenhewasin

pain…Iknewtherewereplentyofmorningswhenitwasastruggleforhim

tosimplygetoutofbed.Buteverymorning,Iwatchedmyfatherwakeupwithasmile,grabhis

walker,prophimselfupagainstthebathroomsink,andslowlyshaveand

buttonhisuniform.Andwhenhereturnedhomeafteralongday'

swork,mybrotherandI

wouldstandatthetopofthestairstoourlittleapartment,patiently

waitingtogreethim•…watchingashereacheddowntoliftone

leg,and

thentheother,toslowlyclimbhiswayintoourarms.Butdespitethesechallenges,mydadhardlyevermissedadayofworkandmymomweredeterminedtogivemeandmybrotherthekindofeducationtheycouldonlydreamof.AndwhenmybrotherandIfinallymadeittocollege,nearlyallofourtuitioncamefromstudentloansandgrants.Butmydadstillhadtopayatinyportionofthattuitionhimself.Andeverysemester,hewasdeterminedtopaythatbillrightontime,eventakingoutloanswhenhefellshort.Hewassoproudtobesendinghiskidstocollege…andhemadesurewenevermissedaregistrationdeadlinebecausehischeckwaslate.Yousee,formydad,that'

somanyofus,thatwasthemeasureofhissuccessinlifebeingabletoearnadecentlivingthatallowedhimtosupporthisfamily.AndasIgottoknowBarack,Irealizedthateventhoughhe'
