2012年6月，美国内布拉斯加林肯大学（UNL）推出一项大计划：

UNL校园规划及景观设计。

这项计划将

为学校提供一些景观理论框架，从而在全国学术、竞技、研究的同行中加强它的地位。

为满足大学的期望，景观理论框架包括三大理念：

大且绿；

大且联系紧密；

大畅想。

这三大理念有利于提高学校的学习环境。

“大且绿”的理念有几个组成部分，包括一个代表新愿景的纪念广场、一个与足球馆相邻的占据地标位置的开放式草坪等。

图书馆的重建和附近花园景观的打造，提供给学生们一个学习和聚集的新环境。

“大且绿”包含了注重校园雨洪管理这样一个可持续发展的理念，减少了地表径流。

“大且联系紧密”的理念提供了多样化的出行方式：

骑车、走路、驾驶、换乘等，为学生们往来学校和附近城区提供了极大的便利。

最后，“大畅想”体现了学校想要成为世界一流校园的热情和雄心。

UNLCampusandLandscapeMasterPlan,whichprovidesthephysicalframeworkforUNLtogrowandstrengthenitsplaceamongnationalpeersinacademics,athletics,andresearch.Thenamereflectsthesignificanceofthisplanfortheuniversity,whichisoccurringatatimeofambitiousgrowthaspirations,anewpositionwithintheBigTenconference,andnewvisionsforUNL'

scampusandlandscapeidentity.AsNebraska'

sonlyland-grant,comprehensive,researchuniversity,UNLhaslaidoutgoalstoincreaseenrollment,tenure-trackfaculty,researchexpenditures,andgraduationratestoheightenacademicachievementandfiscalsustainability.Whilegrowthwillbetransformativeinapositivewayfortheuniversity,itmustbethoughtfullyplannedandbalancedwithexistingneeds.Ratherthanconceivingofsingular,circumscribedprojects,theplansuggestswaysthattheuniversitycancreatecollaborativeplacesthatcontributetoandreinforcetheoverallcampusidentityandexperience.

Inkeepingwiththeuniversity'

saspirations,theframeworkconsistsofthreebigideas:

BigandGreen;

Big,ButWellConnected;

andThinkingBig.EachoftheseideasidentifiesphysicalimprovementstothecampusthatreinforcesUNL'

slearningenvironments.ThereareseveralcomponentstotheBigandGreenfeatureoftheplan,includinganewvisionforMemorialMall,ahistoricopenlawnwhichoccupiesasymbolicallyimportantsiteadjacenttothefootballstadium.Renovationtothegroundleveloftheuniversity'

sLoveLibrarybuildingandtheadjacentgardenswillcreateanewplaceforpeopletostudyorgather.BigandGreenalsoincludesanoverarchingsustainabilitystrategyforbothcampuses,withafocusonstormwatermanagementthatreducesandtreatsrunoffatthesource.InordertomakeUNLaBig,ButWell-Connectedcampus,theplanimprovesmobilityoptions,suchasbiking,walking,transit,anddriving—bothtoandwithineachcampus.Additionally,identifyingtheZipperZone—theregiononCityCampusbetweenRandQStreets—providesopportunitiestostrengthenprogrammaticconnectionsbetweenthecampusandtheadjacentdowntown.Finally,ThinkingBigembodiestheuniversity'

senthusiasmtocreateworld-class,collaborativelearningenvironmentsonbothofUNL'

smaincampuses.Toachievethis,theplanidentifiesfutureacademicsitesthatcanaccommodateentrepreneurialgrowthandreinforceinterdisciplinarycollaboration. 

InhisStateoftheUniversityaddress,thechancellor,encouragedUNLstudents"

tothinkbig—tothinkbeyondtherestraintsoftheircurrentimagination,beyondtheircurrentcitylimits,andbeyondtheboundariesoftheircurrentcircumstances."
