Upongraduationin1991,IwoneasyacceptanceintotheInstituteofElectronicsundertheChineseAcademyofSciencesandbecameagraduatestudentat19,whenmostChinesestudentswouldbejuststartingtheiruniversityeducation.Atthisinstitute,Inarrowedmyacademicinterestdownandfocuseditontheareaofhumanandartificialintelligence,wherethecoursesItookweredeliberatelyconcentrated.Itseemedtomethatscientificbreakthroughswouldnextcomeinthisarea,whichmadeitbothchallengingandpromising.Ilearnedawholelotaboutthisareainthecourseifdoingmythesistitled“TheRadioShuntingSysteminRailroad”,forwhichsomeexperimentswereconductedonthebasisofartificialintelligence.

Therelativesmoothpathofmycareernotwithstanding,Ihavenothadachancetoleadamajorproject,althoughIhavealwaysfinishedmypartofeveryprojectimmaculately.Inspiteofallmyachievements,IfeelthatIhavenottakenthefulladvantagesofmyintellectualcapabilities.InowwishtopursuestillmoreadvancedstudiesandtherebyobtainanadvanceddegreesothatIcanopenmoredoorsandshouldergreaterresponsibilities.
IbelieveIhaveacquiredthenecessarytheoreticalframeworkandsufficientpracticalexperienceforfurtherstudies.MyabilitytoteachmyselfandconductindependentresearchallowsmetoattaincompetencequicklyinareasthatImayatfirstknowverylittleabout.Ineverworkjusttofinishanassignment,butinsteadIalwaystryconscientiouslytoimprovemyknowledgeandexpertisethroughtheworkIdo.Inthisfashion,Ihavebecomeseasonedinsuchfieldsastrunkingsystem(telecommunications)andCMISsystem(software).ThisqualityshouldhelpmeasIseektofurtherupgrademyeducation,particularlyifIhavereadyaccesstotheseasonedguidanceofastrongfacultyandtheconvenienceofstate-of-the-artresearchfacilities.
