1.2ThispracticeshallbeincompliancewiththerequirementsofSNT-TC-1A（currentCodeacceptededition）.

2.Definitions

2.1Termsincludedinthispracticearedefinedasfollows:

1）.Qualification:

Demonstratedskill,demonstratedknowledge,documentedtraininganddocumentedexperiencerequiredforpersonneltoproperlyperformthedutiesofaspecificjob.

2）.Certification:

Writtentestimonyofqualification.

3）.Training:

Theorganizedprogramdevelopedtoimparttheknowledgeandskillsnecessaryforqualification.

4）.Experience:

WorkactivitiesaccomplishedinaspecificNDEmethodunderthedirectionofqualifiedsupervisionincludingtheperformanceoftheNDEmethodandcorrespondingworkingscopebutnotincludingtimespentinorganizedtrainingprograms.

5）.Certificate:

Certifieddocument.

3.NondestructiveTestingMethods

QualificationandcertificationofNDEpersonnelinaccordancewiththispracticeisapplicabletothefollowingmethods:

1）RadiographicTesting（RT）

2）UltrasonicTesting（UT）

3）LiquidPenetrationTesting（PT）

4）MagneticParticleTesting（MT）

4.LevelsofQualification

4.1Therearethree（3）basicLevelsofqualificationforNDEindividualsinaccordancewithSNT-TC-1A（currentCodeacceptededition）.

4.2Whileintheprocessofbeingqualifiedandcertified,anindividualshallbeconsideredatrainee.Atraineeshallworkwithacertifiedindividualandshallnotindependentlyconduct,interpret,evaluate,orreporttheresultsofanyNDE.

4.3ThethreebasicLevelsofqualificationareasfollows:

（1）NDELevelI:

AnNDELevelIindividualshallbequalifiedtoproperlyperformspecificcalibrationsandevaluationsforacceptanceorrejectiondeterminationsaccordingtowritteninstructionsandtorecordresults.TheNDELevelIindividualshallfollowthenecessaryinstructionorsupervisionofacertifiedNDELevelⅡorlevelⅢindividual.

（2）NDELevelII:

AnNDELevelIIindividualshallbequalifiedtosetupandcalibrateequipmentandtointerpretandevaluateresultswithrespecttoapplicablecodes,standards,andspecifications.TheNDELevelIIshallbethoroughlyfamiliarwiththescopeandlimitationsofthemethodsforwhichqualifiedandshallexerciseassignedresponsibilityforon-the-jobtrainingandguidanceoftraineesandNDELevelIpersonnel.TheNDELevelIIshallbeabletopreparetheinstructions,organizeNDEexaminationandreporttheresultsofNDE.

（3）NDELevelIII:

AnNDELevelIIIindividualshallbecapableofestablishingtechniquesandprocedures,interpretingCode,standards,specificationsandproceduresanddesignatingtheparticularNDEmethods,techniquesandprocedurestobeused.TheNDELevelIIIindividualshallberesponsiblefortheNDEoperationsforwhichqualifiedandassignedandbecapableofinterpretingandevaluatingresultsintermsofexistingCode,standardsandspecifications.TheNDELevelIIIshallhavesufficientpracticalbackgroundinapplicablematerials,fabrication,andproducttechnologytoestablishtechniquesandtoassistinestablishingacceptancecriteriaincaseofothercriteriaavailable.TheNDELevelIIIshallhavegeneralfamiliaritywithotherappropriateNDEmethodsasdemonstratedbytheASNTLevelIIIBasicexaminationorothermeans.TheNDELevelIII,inthemethodsinwhichcertified,shallbecapableoftrainingandexaminingNDELevelIandIIpersonnelforcertificationinthosemethods.

5.Education,TrainingandExperienceRequirementsforInitialQualification

5.1PersonnelapplyingforcertificationinNDEshallhavesufficienteducation,trainingandexperiencetoensuretounderstandtheprincipleandoperationmethodsofthecertificationforwhichtheyareapplying.

5.2Priortotheestablishmentofthiswrittenpracticethosewhosetrainingtermandexperienceareequivalenttothatoflevel,I,II,IIIpersonnelandareofverifiedmaybeconsideredofsatisfyingthecriteriaofPar.5.3.

5.3Inconsiderationforcertification,acandidateshallsatisfyoneofthefollowingcriteriafortheapplicableNDELevel:

（1）.ForLevelIIcertification,theexperienceshallconsistoftimeatLevelIorequivalent.IfapersonisbeingqualifieddirectlytoLevelIIwithnotimeatLevelI,therequiredexperienceshallconsistofthesumofthetimesrequiredforLevelIandLevelIIandtherequiredtrainingshallconsistofthesumofthehoursrequiredforLevelIandLevelII.

（2）.Initialexperiencemaybegainedsimultaneouslyintwoormoremethodsifthecandidatespendsaminimumof25%ofhisworktimeoneachmethodforwhichcertificationissought,andtheremainderoftheworktimeclaimedasexperienceisspentinNDE-relatedactivitiesdefinedintheABC’Swrittenpractice.

5.3.2NDELevelIII

（1）Havegraduatedfromaminimumfour-yearcollegeoruniversitycurriculumwithadegreeinengineeringorscience,plusoneyear’sexperienceinNDEinanassignmentcomparabletothatofanNDELevelIIintheapplicabletestmethods.or;

（2）Havecompletedwithpassinggradesatleasttwoyearsofengineeringorsciencestudyatauniversity,college,ortechnicalschool,plustwoyear’sexperienceinNDEinanassignmentatleastcomparabletothatofNDELevelIIintheapplicableNDEmethods.or;

（3）Havefouryear’sexperienceinNDEinanassignmentatleastcomparabletothatofanNDELevelIIintheapplicableNDEmethods.

6.TrainingPrograms

6.1PersonnelapplyingforinitialcertificationshallreceivesufficientorganizedtrainingtobecomethoroughlyfamiliarwiththeprinciplesandpracticesofthespecifiedNDEmethodrelatedtothelevelofcertificationdesiredandapplicabletotheprocessestobeusedandtheproductstobeexamined.

6.2Thetrainingprogramshallincludesufficientexaminationstoassurethatthenecessaryinformationhasbeencomprehended.

6.3ASNTrecommendedtrainingcourseoutlinesforNDELevelIandIIpersonnelareusedasreferencematerialsforthiswrittenpractice.

7.Examinations

7.1AdministrationandGrading

NDELevelIIIorhisdesignatedrepresentativeshallberesponsiblefortheadministrationandgradingofexaminations.

7.2VisionExaminations

1）Theexaminationshallassurenaturalorcorrectednear-distanceacuityinatleastoneeyesuchthattheapplicantiscapableofreadingaminimumofJaeger2,orequivalenttypeandsizeletteratadistanceofnotlessthan305mmonastandardJaegertestchart.

2）Theexaminationshalldemonstratethecapabilityofdistinguishinganddifferentiatingcontrastamongcolorsorshadesofgrayusedinthemethod.

3）Thevisionexaminationsshallbeconductedannually.

4）Examinationresultsshallbekeptonfileduringtheperiodofcertification.

7.3ForLevelIandIIpersonnel,acompositegradeshallbedeterminedbysimpleaveragingoftheresultsofthegeneral,specificandpracticalexaminationsdescribedbelow.

7.3.1GeneralExamination（Written）

1）Thegeneralexaminationsshalladdressthebasicprinciplesoftheapplicablemethod.

2）Inpreparingtheexaminations,theChiefExaminer（LevelIII）orhisdesignatedrepresentativeshallselectordeviseappropriatequestionsaccordingtotheapplicablemethodandthedegreerequiredbythiswrittenpractice.

3）Theminimumnumberofquestionsareasfollows:

7.3.2SpecificExaminations（Written）

1）Thespecificexaminationshalladdresstheequipment,operatingproceduresandNDEtechniquesthattheindividualmayencounterduringspecificassignmentstothedegreerequiredbythiswrittenpractice.

2）ThespecificexaminationshallalsocoverthespecificationsorcodesandacceptancecriteriausedinNDEprocedures.

7.3.3PracticalExamination

1）Proficiencyshallbedemonstratedinperforming（forlevelⅡselectingandperforming）theapplicableNDEononeormoresamplesapprovedbytheNDELevelIIIandinevaluatingtheresultstothedegreeofresponsibilityasdescribedinthiswrittenpractice.

2）Priortoexamination,theChiefExaminer（LevelIII）orhisdesignatedrepresentativeshallprepareachecklistofatleastten（10）differentcheckpointsrequiringanunderstandingofNDEparametersandthecompany’sproceduralrequirementsshallbeincludedinthispracticalexamination.

3）ThecandidateshalldemonstrateskillfuloperationofthenecessaryNDEequipment,record,andanalyzetheresultantinformationtothedegreerequired.

4）AtleastoneselectedspecimenshallbetestedandtheresultsoftheNDEshallbeanalyzedbythecandidate.
