AHAMstandardsarepresentedtotheAmericanNationalStandardsInstitute(ANSI)forrecognitionasAmericanNationalStandards.ThisstandardwassorecognizedonApril9,2002andbearstheAmericanNationalStandarddesignationANSI/AHAMAC-1-2002.
Thisstandardcontainstestprocedureswhichmaybeappliedtoanybrandormodelofportablehouseholdelectriccord-connectedroomaircleanerswithinthestatedconfinesofthestandard'
slimitsofmeasurabilityformeasuringperformance.Resultsoftestsinaccordancewiththisstandardmaybepubliclystated.
Withregardtosafety,AHAMrecommendsthatallapplianceproducts-bothmajorandportable-manufacturedormarketedintheUnitedStatesbesubmittedtoanappropriateindependentlaboratoryforinspectionandlistinginconformancewiththesafetystandardsandproceduresfollowedbysuchlaboratories.TherelevantstandardsforportablehouseholdelectriccordconnectedroomaircleanersareUL867,"

Theappendicestothisstandardaregenerallyforinformationalpurposesexceptwherereferencedinthebodyofthestandard.
AHAMwelcomescommentsandsuggestionsregardingthisstandard.Anystandardmaybereviewedandimprovedasneeded.Allstandardsmustbeupdatedorreconfirmedatleasteveryfiveyears.Anyinterestedparty,atanytime,mayrequestachangeinanAHAMstandard.SuchrequestshouldbeaddressedtoAHAM'

1.PURPOSE
Thisstandardmethodestablishesuniform,repeatableproceduresandstandardmethodsformeasuringspecifiedproductcharacteristicsofportablehouseholdelectriccord-connectedroomaircleaners.
Thestandardmethodsprovideameanstocompareandevaluatedifferentbrandsofportablehouseholdelectriccordconnectedroomaircleanersregardingcharacteristicssignificanttoproductuse.
Thestandardmethodsofmeasurementarenotintendedtoinhibitimprovementandinnovationinproducttesting,designorperformance.
2.SCOPE
Thisstandardmethodappliestoportablehouseholdelectriccord-connectedroomaircleanersasdefinedinSection3.
Thisstandardmethodincludesdefinitionsandsafetycharacteristicsofportablehouseholdelectriccord-connectedroomaircleanersofthetypesindicated.
Thisstandardmethodmeasurestherelativereductionbytheaircleanerofparticulatemattersuspendedintheairinaspecifiedtestchamber.

WithinthescopeofANSI/AHAMAC-1,CleanAirDeliveryRate(CADR)isdefinedasthemeasureofthedeliveryofcontaminantfreeairbyaportablehouseholdelectriccord-connectedroomaircleaner,expressedincubicfeetperminute.Moretechnically,CleanAirDeliveryRatesaretheratesofcontaminantreductioninthetestchamberwhentheunitisturnedon,minustherateofnaturaldecaywhentheunitisnotrunning,timesthevolumeofthetestchamberasmeasuredincubicfeet.(SeeSection
