Tosomepeople,havingacarincreasestheirsocialposition.Owningacarespeciallyanexpensiveoneisasignoftheirwealthorhighsocialstatues.Consequently,theyrefusetousepublictransportbecausetheyfeelthatsqueezingintoanovercrowdedtrainorbusinrushhoursisonlyforpeoplewithlimitedmeans.
Anotherreasonforthisisthattomanypeople,aprivatecaroffersasenseoffreedomandmobility.Forexample,theycandrivetheircartoanysupermarketinthecityandreturnhomewithabootfullofgroceries.Also,theycandrivehomefromworklateatnightwhileothersareanxiouslywaitingforpublictransport.
Thereare,however,measuresthegovernmentcouldtaketoencouragetheuseofpublictransport.Thefirstactioncouldbetoimprovetheservice,likeensuringtrainsarepunctual,installingmorefortableseatsinwaitingareasandprovidingadditionalbusroutes.Furthermore,loweringfareswouldalsobeaveryeffectivewayofencouragingpeopletousethesystem.Finally,thegovernmentcouldeducatepeopleaboutthedevastatingimpactofvehicleemissionontheenvironmentsotheywouldbelesslikelytodrive.
Toconclude,governmentsshouldtaketheaboveactiontomakepeoplerealizetakingpublictransportisamuchcheaper,morefortableandmoreenvironmentally-friendlyoptionthandrivingtheirowncar.

Ontheotherhand,people’schoicesofhousingandattitudetolivingarealsomajorfactorsinthehousingequation.Modernpeopletendtoregardhomesmoreasasignofstatusandwealththanasashelteragainstthe
