BACKGROUNDOFTHEINVENTION
Theinventionrelatestoanelectro-magneticrelayhavinganelongatedarmaturewhichextendsessentiallyparalleltotheaxisoftheexcitationcoilandwhichispivotablyseatedwithoneendataflangeofthecoilbody,particularlyaccordingtoGermanpatentapplicationP3132239.5,correspondingtoU.S.Ser.No.401,236,incorporatedhereinbyreference.
Therelayaccordingtotheaforementionedreferencehastheadvantagethat,asaresultofdirectlyfasteningthespringycontactarmsintheinsulatingcarrierofthearmature,thearmaturemotionisdirectlytransmittedtothespringycontactarmssothatnoactuationslideisrequired.Duetotheconnectionofthemovablespringycontactarmstotheinsulatingcarrier,thusanyandallfrictionbetweenthearmatureandmovablecontactspringarmwhichwouldotherwisebecausedbyastandardactuationslideisavoided.However,allfrictionisnotavoidedinthesampleembodimentsoftheaforementionedreferencesincetheknife-edgebearingsandtrunionmountingsofthearmaturedisclosedtherecauseadmittedlyslightbutnotnegligiblefriction.
SUMMARYOFTHEINVENTION
Anobjectoftheinventionistoimprovearelayofthetypeinitiallycited,particularlyaccordingtotheaforementionedreference,suchthatthearmatureisseatedpracticallyfriction-freewithafewpartswhichareeasytoassemble.
Thisobjectisinventivelyachievedinthattheseatedendofthearmatureissecuredinanarmatureretainingelementwhichisintegratedtothecoilbodyoveroneormoreelasticstaysorsupportarms.
Bymeansofintegratingthearmatureretainingelementinthesyntheticcoilbody,itbecomespossibletoobtainafriction-freearmatureseatingandtoeliminateadditionalparts.Moreover,asummationoraccumulationoftolerancesispreventedsincenoseparatelymanufacturedtransitionelementsarepresentbetweenthearmatureandthecoilbodyand,normally,theironpartsofthemagneticcircuitareseatedatthecoilbody.
Thearmature-retainingelementisexpedientlydesignedinframe-likefashionsothatthearmatureisheldbymeansofplug-infasteninginthecut-outoftheframe.Inthiscase,thearmatureisinsertedinalongitudinaldirectionintherecessofthearmatureretainingelementandisheldbymeansofapressfitorbymeansofalatchconnectionaswell.Suchalatchconnectioncan,forexample,beachievedbymeansofcooperatingnotchesandprojectionsatthearmatureontheonehandandatthearmatureretainingelementontheotherhand.
Inanotherembodiment,thearmature-retainingelementcanalsoexhibitaU-shapedrecessinwhichthearmatureissecuredbypluggingand,ifneedby,byengagementaswell.Incaseitisnecessarytoinsulatetheendofthearmaturefrommetallicpartsofthemagneticcircuit,forinstancefromametallicrelaycover,thenthearmatureretainingelementcanexhibitaclosedbackwallasanextensionofthelongitudinalaxisofthearmature.
Theelasticstaywhichrespectivelyconnectsthearmatureretainingelementtothecoilbodyexpedientlyexhibitsarectangularcross-sectionatitsnarrowestlocation,thenarrowsideofsaidrectangularcross-sectionproceedinginthedirectionoftherotationalaxisofthearmature.Thiselasticstayor,respectivelytheseelasticstays,inapreferredembodiment,areformedbytwooppositelyroundednotchesbetweenthecoilflangeandthearmatureretainingelement.
Inapreferredembodiment,thearmatureisdisposedinanaxialopeningofthecoilbody,wherebythearmatureretainingelementisintegratedontheonecoilflangeovertwoflexuralstaysdisposedatbothsidesofthearmature.Inanotherembodiment,thearmaturecanalsobedisposedatthesideofthecoilandbesecuredinanarmatureretainingelementcorrespondinglyintegratedlaterallyonacoilflange.Correspondingtotheaforementionedreference,thearmatureretainingelementcanalsoadditionallycarryoneormoreelongatedcontactelementswhicharesecuredparalleltothearmatureandwhicharemovedincommonwithsaidarmature.

DESCRIPTIONOFTHEPREFERREDEMBODIMENTS
ThecoilbodywitharmatureillustratedinaperspectiveviewinFIG.1canbeemployedinarelay,forexampleinarelayaccordingtotheaforementionedreference.Thiscoilbody1,whichisshownwithoutawinding,exhibitstwocoilflanges2and3,wherebytheoneend4aofanelongated,bar-shapedarmature4isseatedintheareaofthecoilflange2sothatitextendsthroughanopening1aofthecoilbody1intheaxialdirectionofsaidcoilbody1andsothatitsfreeend4bcanexecuteswitchmotionsbetweenreciprocalpoles(notillustrated).
Aframe-likearmatureretainingelement5whichisintegratedonthecoilbodyflange2overelasticstaysorsupportingarms6and7servesforseatingthearmature.Thearmatureistherebyheldintheframe-likearmatureretainingelementbymeansofapressfit,whereastheflexuralstays6formedbyoppositelyroundednotchesformtherotationalaxisofthearmatureattheirrespectivenarrowestlocation.
Theflange2ofthecoilbodyformsaprojection2abelowthearmatureretainingelement5which,forexample,carriescoilconnectionpins8.Theoverallcoilbodywitharmaturecanbeputinplaceonarelaybasebody(notillustrated)asdisclosed,forexample,asintheaforementionedreference.Setsofcontactspringarmsactuatablebythearmaturecaneitherbelaterallyattachedtothecoilbodyorcanbesecuredinthebasebody.Asprovidedintheaforementionedreference,themovablecontactspringarmscantherebyalsobesecuredinacorrespondinglydesignedarmatureretainingelement(seealsoFIG.6).
AsomewhatpartiallymodifiedembodimentofacoilbodywitharmatureisshowninsectionseenfromthetopinFIG.2.Thecoilbody11withflanges12and13carriesawinding11a,whereasthebar-shapedarmature4isdisposedatitsinside.Twobentshacklesorconductivestrips14and15therebyservetoclosethemagneticcircuit,theends14aand15aofsaidshackles14and15approachingtheseatedarmatureend4aandtheirends14band15bformingrespectiveworkingairgaps16or,respectively17,relativetothearmatureend4b.Thesystemcanbepolarizedbymeansofapermanentmagnet(notillustrated),sothat,dependinguponexcitation,thearmatureisattractedtotheoneortotheothermagneticcircuitshackle14orrespectively15.
Thearmatureretainingelement18isdesignedsimilartothearmatureretainingelement5inFIG.1.Incomparisontothis,however,itexhibitsaclosedbackwall18asothattheinsertedarmatureend4aisinsulated.
Inthiscase,thecoiltubeoropening11bisconicallydesigned,i.e.theopeningintheareaofthecoilflange12intheproximityofthearmatureseatingisnarrow,whereasitiswiderintheareaofthecoilflange13intheproximityofthefreearmatureend.Anunimpededswitchmotionofthearmatureisthereforepossible,whereas,ontheotherhand,thespacenotrequiredfortheswitchmotionisfilledbythesyntheticofthecoilbodyandlendsthecoilbodygreaterstability.Thishastheadvantageinthemanufactureofthecoilbodythatthecoreoftheinjectionmoldingdiecanbemoreeasilywithdrawnduetotheconicalform.Intheareaofthecoilflange13,thecoilbodyaccordingtoFIG.2furtherexhibitstwostopnoses19bymeansofwhichthearmaturestrokecanbeexactlylimited.
Inadetailedillustration,FIG.3showsanotherembodimentofthecoilbody.Theinsideofthecoilbody21withwinding21acontainsayoke22whichisangledoffatthecoilflange23.Inthiscase,thebar-shapedarmature24isdisposedparalleltothecoilaxisandnexttothecoilandissecuredinanarmatureretainingelement25integratedonthecoilflange23.Thisarmatureretainingelement25isalsoconnectedtothecoilbody21overoneormoreflexuralstaysorsupportarms26andallowsaswitchmotionofthearmature24.Formountingpurposes,thearmatureexhibitsoneormorenotches27inwhichcatchnoses28ofthearmatureretainingelement25engage.
TheembodimentaccordingtoFIG.4islargelyidenticaltothatofFIG.3.There,thecoilbody31carriesanelongated,straight-lineyoke32insidewhichprojectsbeyondthecoilflange33inanaxialdirectionandtowhichanarmature34designedinangled-offfashioniscoupled.Thearmature34issecuredinanarmatureretainingelement35whichisconnectedtothecoilflange33overaflexuralstayorsupport36.
