centreofthetestsample.Aprismaticcellisalsotoberotated90degreesarounditslongitudinalaxissothatboththewideandnarrowsideswillbesubjectedtotheimpact.Eachsampleistobesubjectedtoonlyasingleimpactwithseparatesamplestobeusedforeachimpact.(seefigure2)

Thedroptestisconductedonacellorcellblock,andbatterysystem*.Thetestmethodandtheheightofthedroparedeterminedbythetestunitweightasshowninthetable2.

Eachfullychargedtestunitisdroppedthreetimesfromaheightshownintable2ontoaconcretefloor.
Inthecaseofthemassoftestunitislessthan7kg,thetestunitsaredroppedsoastoobtainimpactsinrandomorientations.Inthecaseofthemassoftestunitis7kgormoreandlessthan20kg,thetestshallbeperformedwiththetestunitdroppedinthebottomdowndirection.Thebottomsurfaceofthetestunitisspecifiedbythemanufacturer.
Afterthetest,thetestunitsshallbeputonrestforaminimumofonehourandthen434avisualinspectionshallbeperformed.

fullychargedtestunitisdroppedtwotimesfromaheightshownintable2ontoaconcretefloor.
Thedroptestconditionsshallassure,withtestarrangementsasshowninFigure3,Figure4andFigure

5,reproducibleimpactpointsfortheshortestedgedropimpactandthecornerimpacted.Thetwoimpacts,perimpacttype,shallbeonthesamecornerandonthesameshortestedge.Forthe
cornerandedgedrops,thetestunitshallbeorientedinsuchawaythatastraightlinedrawnthroughthestruckcorner/edgeandthetestunitgeometriccentreisapproximatelyperpendiculartotheimpactsurface.

Atoafinaldischargevoltagespecifiedbythemanufacturer.Samplecellsshallthenbechargedwithaconstantcurrentequaltothemaximumspecifiedchargecurrentofthebatterysystemuntilthevoltagereachesthemaximumvoltagevaluethatispossiblewhenanysinglefailureonthechargecontrolorchargeprotectionfunctionoccurs.Then,thechargeisterminated.Thevoltageandtemperatureshouldbemonitoredduringthetest.
Thetestshallbecontinueduntilthetemperatureofthecellsurfacereachessteadystateconditions(lessthan10°
Cchangeina30-minuteperiod)orreturnstoambient.

Ifthedischargevoltagereachesthetargetvoltageshownbelowwithinthetestperiod,thevoltageshallbekeptatthetargetvoltagebyreducingthecurrentfortheremainingtestperiod.Thetargetvoltageisdeterminedasfollows:

A,toafinaldischargevoltagespecifiedbythemanufacturer.Samplebatteriesshallthenbechargedatthemaximumcurrentoftherecommendedchargerwithsetvoltageexceedingtheupperlimitchargevoltageby10%foreachcellinthebattery.
Theexceededvoltagecanbeappliedbyanadditionalchargerifitisdifficulttodoitbytheoriginalcharger.Alsotheexceededvoltagecanbeappliedtoapartofthecell(s)inthebatterysystemifitisdifficulttodoitinusingthewholebatterysystem.
ThetestshallbecarriedoutuntiltheBMUterminatesthecharge,whichshouldoccurbeforereaching110%oftheupperlimitchargevoltage.Dataacquisition/monitoringshallbecontinuedforonehourafterchargeisstopped.Allfunctionsofthebatterysystemshallbefullyoperationalasdesignedduringthetest.
