Thatglobalwarmingcouldincreasetheriskofdesertlocustcrisiswasproposedovertenyearsago,andinFebruary,theUNSecretary-GeneralAntó

nioGuterresstatedthatthecurrentoutbreakislinkedtotheeffectsofclimatechange:

“warmerseasmeanmoreperfectbreedinggroundforlocusts”.Theoutbreakhasitsoriginsin2018,whenaseriesofwindstormsintheArabianPeninsula(阿拉伯半岛)enabledthewarmandwetconditionsthedesertlocustrequirestobreedandbandundetectedinremoteregions.Thoughourfocushereismigrationwest,dreadfuloutbreaksofthedesertlocusthavebeenexperiencedtotheeast.

Thesituationisgoingoutofcontrol.Arescueoperationandfinancialsupportadmitnodelay.TheFoodandAgriculturalOrganization(FAO)cantakeoutonlyUS$138millionforrapidresponseandimmediateaction—controllingthespreadofthedesertlocustandsafeguardinglivelihoods.Theysaythemathsisclear:

abouthalfthefunding(资助)isneededforsupervision,groundandskycontrol,andunitingefforts;

theotherhalfisneededforlivelihoodsandfoodsecurityoffarmers.Asforthehugegap,theyhavecalledontheinternationalcommunitytoactnowthroughfunding.However,bytheendofFebruary,justUS$69millionhadbeenpromised.
