※在复合句中修饰名词或代词的从句叫定语从句
e.g.
Ilikequietandgentlemusic
=Ilikemusic(that/whichisquietandgentle.)
先行词是物:
物+which/that…+从句
先行词是人:
人+who/that…+从句
例1:
Ilovemusicwhichisquietandgentle.
=Ilovemusicthatisquietandgentle.
例2:
Iprefersingerswhowritetheirownmusic.
=Iprefersingersthatwritetheirownmusic.
注意:
在介词之后,先行词指人时,关系代词只能用whom;
指物时只能用which,(且不可省略)不能用that,.但介词放在从句句末时,可用that,且可省略.如:
Doyouknowthewomanwithwhomtheteacheristalking?
Doyouknowthewoman(whom/that)theteacheristalkingwith?
例2:
Thisisthestorybookaboutwhichitoldyou.
Thisisthestorybook(which/that)itoldyouabout.

(1)prefer+n.(名词),例如:

(2)prefertodosth宁愿做某事,例如:

(3)prefersthtosth比……更喜欢……,
Ipreferfishtomeat.我喜欢鱼,而不喜欢肉。

在定语从句中,只能用that引导的情况:
1)先行词被any,every,theonly,thevery,thesame,all,no修饰时,关系代词通常用that而不用which和who,作宾语时可省略。
【例子】
That’stheonlything(that)wecandoatthemoment.
2)先行词被序数词或形容词最高级修饰时,关系代词通常用that而不用which和who,作宾语时可省略。
Thisisthebestbook(that)Ihaveeverknownonthatsubject.
3)先行词是指物的不定代词all,little,few,much,none时,关系代词通常用that而不用which。
Thereisstillmuchthatcanbedoneaboutit.
All(that)youhavetodoistogeteverythingready.
4)先行词是不定代词everything,something,anything,nothing关系代词通常用that而不用which;
是everyone,everybody,anyone,anybody,someone,somebody,noone时,关系代词通常用who而不用that。
【例子】

5)当先行词为两个或两个以上分别表示人和物的名词及其短语时,关系代词只用that而不用which或who。
