  Changesinuniversityeducation

Universitiesaroundtheworldareundergoingmajorchanges.Governmentpoliciesnowrequireuniversitiestobecomemorecostefficient,entrepreneurialandlessdependentonpublicfunding.Therearethreeviewsabouttheoutcomeoftheseprocesses.Thefirstviewisthatuniversitiesarenowmuchmoreefficient.Thesecondisthatalthoughuniversitiesneedtoimproveefficiency,thechangeshavebeenunnecessarilyfar-reachingandsevere.Thethirdviewisthatthechangeshavewreakedhavocinseveralfundamentalareasofuniversityactivitysuchasthecurriculum,teaching,researchandadministration.Herewewillexaminetheimpactofchangesonthelecturingstaff.
