3.HowhavechangesintechnologycontributedtotheglobalizationofmarketsandofproductionWouldtheglobalizationofproductionandmarketshavebeenpossiblewithoutthesetechnologicalchanges
Changesintechnologyhavecontributedtotheglobalizationofmarketsandofproductioninaverysubstantivemanner.Forinstance,improvementsintransportationtechnologyhavepavedthewayforcompanieslikeCoca-Cola,LeviStrauss,SonyandMcDonaldstomaketheirproductsavailableworldwide.Similarly,improvementsincommunicationstechnologyhavehadamajorimpact.Theabilitytonegotiateacrosscontinentshasbeenfacilitatedbyimprovedcommunicationstechnology,andtherapidlydecreasingcostofcommunicationshasloweredtheexpenseofcoordinatingandcontrollingaglobalcorporation.Finally,theimpactofinformationtechnologyhasbeenfarreaching.CompaniescannowgainworldwideexposuresimplybysettingupahomepageontheInternet.Thistechnologywasnotavailablejustafewshortyearsago.Theglobalizationofproductionandmarketsmayhavebeenpossiblewithoutimprovementsintechnology,butthepaceofglobalizationwouldhavebeenmuchslower.Thefallingcostoftechnologyhasmadeitaffordableformanydevelopingnations,whichhasbeeninstrumentalinhelpingthesenationsimprovetheirshareofworldoutputandworldexports.Theinclusionofthesenations,suchasChina,India,Thailand,andSouthKorea,hasbeeninstrumentalintheglobalizationofmarketsandproduction.Inaddition,improvementsinglobaltransportationandcommunicationhavemadeitrelativelyeasyforbusinessexecutivesfromdifferentcountriestoconversewithoneanother.Iftheseformsoftechnology,includingair-travel,faxcapability,e-mail,andovernightdeliveryofpackageswerenotavailable,itwouldbemuchmoredifficultforbusinessestoconductinternationaltrade.
