SoIcouldwriteabookonThailand,butIwon‘tboreyouwitheverylastdetail.Let‘sjustsaythatIreallylovedThailand—somuchsothatactuallyconsideredlivingthereforawhile.IspendmostofmytimeinBangkok,whichisjustanamazingcity,sofulloflifeandactivityandpleasantrestaurants.
MywifeandIstaredinaweatallthehugebuildings,thecrowdedstreets,theintensityoflife,whenwefirstenteredthecity.WespentmostofourtripexploringBangkok,andthemorewedidso,themorewerealizedwewereonlyscratchingthesurface.
WealsospentalittlelessthanaweekonasmallislandcalledKohSamed,anislandwhosechiefactivityistourism,andwherethereisnothingelsetodobutlayonthebeach,eat,drink,swim,read,andbemerry.Wedidalloftheabove,andlotsofit.Thesandiswhite,theseaisjade,andtheweatherwasperfect.
Bangkokisn‘tsosimpletodescribe,butI‘llofferafewhighlights:
Manyofthestreetsarejustfilledwithtinystallsandcarts,sellingeverythingfromclothestosouvenirstoelectronicstoallkindsofThaifoods.Thefoodisexcellent.
Bangkokhasnotonlyabigrivergoingdownthemiddleofit,butalsonumerouscanalsthatuntilrecentdecadeswereoneofthemainwaterwaysofthecity.Wetookaslowmotorboattourandsawsomeveryinterestingviewsofthecity,missedbymanytourists,throughthecanals.
